I am planning to add autopilot to my boat over the winter. Can somebody with a Raymarine package tell me the factory installation location of the control computer and fluxgate compass?

Thanks in advance!

Heading sensor is under the mid stateroom starboard bunk.

Course computer is against the forward wall above the fuse panel under the helm.

Mine is an original RM setup but the control computer is right under the helm with the rest of the electronics. My compass may be under the starboard bunk in the port stateroom. I was told not to store anything metal in that bunk, which is why I think it may be there.

Thank you Bill & Steve! One more question - can you also tell me where the autopilot's hydraulic pump is located? I am guessing in the bilge by the reservoir?

I had a pleasant maintenance surprise today. My stbd diesel was making a strange howling/whining noise when under load above 2000 rpm or so.

Turned out it was a leak in the boost side of the turbo where the pipe clamp had slipped back down the pipe and was allowing boost air to escape at the inlet manifold, the noise was the hose vibrating on the pipe...I was having nightmares about a transmission issue, turbo problem, or some other huge problem.

Port side aft of the waste tank. No reservoir, that's at the helm. If you have a reservoir you may have a different setup.

So I searched the whole thread and found some great pics of fantastic new interior flooring projects. Infinity carpet, teaks, other woods and vinyls. They look great. What I couldn’t find was any mention of who the manufacturer is/was of the original carpet. We sort of like the carpet inside. It’s cozy, a little quieter. But ours is 15+ years old and needs replacing.

Can anyone point me to the manufacturer of the original interior carpet? Or, perhaps another company that may have the templates for the interior?

Thanks

I don't know the answer. But back then Sea Ray made a lot of the interior stuff themselves. It's possible they bought the carpet in bulk and then cut it to fit, glued on the thick foam backing and bound it, themselves.

The carpet guy that did my infinity vinyl on the bridge said he could exactly duplicate the interior carpet if and when I am ready. Assume you could find a similar local guy?

It looks like that's what I may have to do. Not a worry. My canvas guy also did my Infinity carpet, so this would be pretty easy for him, too... Thanks!

The carpet in my boat was a replacement by the PO. It has manufacturer labels stuck on the back and a SeaRay order sheet stuck to the back. I can look at those when I am next at the boat.

Also, I note that my carpet was provided to the PO by MarineMax. The carpet template should be a known thing by the vendor for the boat layout and model.

Just about everything to the ER drops behind the ice maker.

Turns out, I didn’t need to install a breaker this season. There’s an opening behind the AC outlet in the battery locker where I was able to fish a Heavy duty extension cord down into the bilge. I tied it off in a few places to deal with wintery waves, and it works well. So, no major electrical work needed!

Has anyone had to replace their helm pedestal? Mine doesn’t go up or down anymore. It actually now has come apart. I think the unit was repaired and now isn’t functioning. It is a 12 inch base and I’d like to plug and play a fully operational base pedestal if it’s doable.

I saw that too. Thank you. I have been reading about replacing the hydraulic spring/ lift but I am not sure the mechanism at the top of the assembly will make the lift raise and lower. I happily rebuild things but if I can find a base pedestal the idea of installing a new one and being done with it is very appealing.

You probably saw I just took the spring out so there is no lift capability anymore. The lowest setting still is plenty high for me and I am only 5' 10".

I did. I am a few searches away from doing that option also. I’m also 5’10” and I know it’ll work. The spring does add some bounce comfort. lol

Well, it's a free experiment so you can always give it a try. If you don't like it then go back to your plan A. But I don't need to tell you that - you are on top of things.

In case anyone is interested - I just ordered 2 new ones and they were 81.00 each. I ordered from this website - http://www.hahn-gassprings.com/ The phone number on the spring is no longer active and actually routes you to a Phone Scam, my advise don't call that number.
I acutally need to replace this. I haven't taken it apart yet but does the gas piston have the required info on it to order from the link above?
