Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Thanks for the engine cleaning tips ,
I will just use light pressure and not on wires or electrical.
I was thinking of using armor all wipes, or tire wet sprayed in a rag , then wipe on the grayish looking hoses , and air cleaner covers , of course
Nothing on the belts ,

Also put a plastic bag on your alternator.

I've used truck wash on my motors (mainly because it was kind to rubber & plastics was also was a mild degreaser and contained a rust inhibitor) and used hose pressure to rinse the motors with no nozzle. Spray nine on the bilge floor and rinse again.

Afterwoods spray the motors with you favourite lubricant but keep off the belts and pulleys. Wipe any excess with a lightly sprayed microfibre cloth.

Has anyone switched out their steps for teak? Wife found this company as a potential source on the SeaRay Facebook forum. Looking for any suggestions or comments.

Not sure if this is appropriate or if we all even want to start anew with a separate thread for just our model years. While our size is close that is about where it stops in terms of similarity to the 98-03 340 model. Unless repowered we don't share the same engine or drivetrain, and all of the systems are reconfigured.

It's just getting tough to wade through 800 some posts with a mix of models.

Just a thought. If nobody wants to do it no big deal.

Welcome. This is a great group. Have learned a ton and passed on my lessons to others. Sure makes thing a lot easier when you have all the support to help figure things out. Enjoy your 340, we certainly have.

My first post - not sure if I am doing it correctly - please let me know if not...

I have a 2004 340 Sundancer - going to mount a tv by the sink in the cockpit. I am assuming to use the Glomax, I will need to run a cable from the gain box in the cabinet on the port side by the v-berth. Anyone have any tips on how to get from that box to the cockpit sink?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

I added a splitter in the arch and then added another gain box under the cockpit sink behind the frig.
Worked good for me.

Anyone install AIS..was wondering if it can be incorporated into RayMarine Touch radar screen or if it needs it's own space on the dash. Also, is it overkill or are rules and regs moving towards the incorporation of this system for vessel safety and separation reasons. Any insights????

If you simply want to receive AIS data then it is relatively simple if your MFD supports it. Units like my Raymarine Axiom do support this.

To only display AIS data you will need to install a VHF with AIS Rx mode and then tie the data (most likely NEMA2000) into your N2K network attached to your MFD. If you do not have a NEMA backbone then you will need to add one.

If you wish to have AIS transmit and receive then you will need to install a transponder and most likely an additional antenna. It will also need to be tied into your NEMA backbone.

Where Did you get the power for the gain box? From the refrigerator?

You will have both AC and DC power available there. Now depending on your signal and line of sight you may not necessary need it. However even if you add it you may not get all the channels you want. That will be dependent on your location.

If you are generally within WIFI or Mobile Data range you may want to try to stream your TV and either display it or cast it to the TV. This is how I handle my TV. I have a computer onboard handling my media services.

Thanks! For the TV in the cabin - if we can get the locals using the HD antenna on the boat, we do that, but most the time I plug my phone into the tv, since my carrier lets me stream without using data, but sometimes the network connection is not the best...I was even thinking about just getting a HD antenna for the cockpit tv and not even try to connect to the boat antenna..

How does one remove the two larger round light fixture covers in the cabin? All the rest of my lights are now LED and these are the last ones I would like to convert to LED. I want to look at the bulbs to replace them. Thanks!
