On my 2002 S/R 240 SD....see attached pic of "bolster" that runs both the starboard and the port side. The actual fabric is rotted to the point it has torn in multiple places. Has anyone had success taking to a upholstery shop to have recovered?

Sure, totally doable. Was there anything more specific you wanted to know?

FYI, if the fabric is rotted away (looks like that portlight was leaking?)... there's a good chance the wood backer is, as well. So you'll need to replace or rebuild/reinforce that.

This is a Sundancer, right? "SD" = SunDeck. "DA" = Sundancer.

Yes it is a DA. Missed the typo. Actually it has plastic track in which the foam and fabric are attached. Was checking to see if any owners had done this DIY or sent to an upholster shop.

OK, if no wood used then you're ahead of the game!

If you look between the pleats, you should see the screws to remove it.

It's a pretty straight forward DIY, though. The fabric is just stretched over the backer/foam and stapled. If your foam is in good shape, there's really no reason to remove the fabric. Just stretch new fabric over everything and staple with monel staples. SS staples would be the second best choice.

You're welcome. Was it screwed in? I forgot to mention that if the plastic backer is thin, then another possible attachment method is they are sometimes fastened to the boat with plastic Christmas trees. But, "usually", the tree method is for shorter panels.

Yes the channel is screwed in. I just took off the starboard side and brought home. My wife checked foam underneath fabric and it is disintegrating. Plus one of the channels is broke. It was one piece..

You probably already thought of this, but it wouldn't be hard at all to cut a new strip/backer if needed - it might be just fine putting it back on there the way it is. Once it's screwed in place (use more screws if needed), it may be good. Otherwise, you'd be just fine using plywood for the new backer. At least, the ones I've had apart before could be duplicated very easily - or just do it a different way, if needed.
