420 DA Thread

If it was my forever boat I would do it for sure, but I see us with this boat maybe 2 or 3 more years then go to something bigger with a factory lift.
Didn’t know there was such a thing as a “Forever Boat” :)

Would I do it again for 30k+, yes! Now that we have a hydraulic lift, I could not live without.
I will say having a lift makes our whole boating experience much more enjoyable not having to struggle with the dinghy launch and retrieval.

Okay this feels like a shake down... Shaming me into a hydraulic lift :)

Our hydraulic lift is great for launching and retrieving the dinghy but we also drop it down on hot days when anchored out with a couple lawn chairs(we have found out lawn chair sink) but another reason we like it so is that we have a daughter with special needs and getting her in and out of the water is a breeze. Could also be used for getting pets on and off, even pigs!

29k seems like a ridiculous markup for what you're actually getting. $1000 bucks of laser cut steel, a $300 dollar pump, and a $3k platform, all for $29k? Give me 2 please!

Hi all
First post on Club SeaRay! We will soon be closing on an ‘05 420. Survey and sea trial went great- managed to squeeze it in before she was winterized and hauled. What an amazing boat! Coming from an ‘88 Silverton 40 convertible- what a difference. This thread was a great reference as we looked for the right boat.
I’m working out the details on what projects I want to tackle over the winter, but I’m in the agonizing position of not actually owning the boat yet so I can’t check certain things out... hoping maybe someone here can help.
The boat has a Raymarine E120 and a SeaRay navigator. I want to swap the SRN out with another E120. (Eventually want to upgrade to Axiom but that will have to wait)
- did these boats come with a DSM 300 sounder? Looks like the transducer connects to the SRN. If that’s the case, anyone know if the transducer (assuming stock) is compatible with the DSM? I’m guessing that may be a tough question to answer, but hoping maybe someone did something similar and what you had to do.
Excited to join in on the conversation!

Congratulations on your new boat. You certainly won't be disappointed in it.

I'm sorry I have no input on your question tho but I'm sure someone will come along shortly.

Factory teak flooring for an '05 420

Just traded up this month from our' 08 270 SLX (for sale, to follow shortly). Reading through the original SR Options list for the 420, I've found teak flooring for the cockpit and s/platform was available.

1765752 FLOOR, TEAK CKPT/SWMPLTFM W/GLUE/INSTALL

Has anyone seen a 420/440 with this factory install? Anyone know who the OEM supplier was and if they still offer same? Thx in advance.

My dock neighbor had the factory teak in the cockpit and swim platform on his 05 420... He just let it grey. It is some work to keep it up. There are a few here who have put faux teak in and it looked really good and low maintenance. If it were me I would go that route over real wood... all be it both options are not cheap.

Congrats - these are awesome boats.

Mine did not come with the SRN but I think they were rigged similar whether or not they were single/dual E120 or E120 and SRN. Mine had a DSM300, but pretty sure if our did not the transducer will be compatible.

If it were me, I would replace the SRN with an Axiom and leave the E120 with the radar. There is an adapter cable to plug the transducer into the Axiom. Then later you can replace the radar and second E120.

One of my dock neighbors has real teak and hates the upkeep. After seeing mine and other Plasdeck results, he can't understand why in this time, manufacturers have not just gone to faux teak or at least an option for it over the real thing. Maybe it's like brightwork, some people just want the real thing and are willing to do the work or just pay to have it done.

I really enjoy my real teak in the cockpit and bridge stairs. Monthly wash with Bar Keepers friend (mild oxyalic acid), let it sit 10 minutes and rinse. Every 5 years, sand with 80/120 grit orbital sander.

Much appreciated. I have been in touch with them. Since they told me the 420/440 DA models were the only ones they didn't have templates on file for I assumed they were not the OEM supplier.

Think I'll give them another chance and gentle nudge to look a little harder. Had their product on my '06 Chris Craft and always found it very attractive.

I am looking at replacing the carpet in my cabin with faux teak. I am now looking at a product called Amtico. I got an estimate of 4K for this job. Would love to see your pics and feedback on my estimate that was given if you had this job done too. If you have pics to post and name of floor that would be great. Thank you

I just ordered samples from this company.

I talked to an installer and he ball parked me $8k. I am thinking about doing it myself.
What are you looking at at Amtico?

I started investigating putting a dinghy on the swim platform. I don't have a hydraulic lift, so I am looking at a Hurley H30. I am starting to second guess the size of the dinghy. I want 10'-2" x 5'-8" but starting to think it might be too big or not look right.
Can any of you tell me what size you have and any pictures of the stern with the dingy on the davit would be appreciated.
@Blueone - here is a link to a posting I made last year (with pics) of my removable davits on my swim platform:

This is a product I am looking at having installed, I am waiting on a final price but anticipate it to come in around $3000. But my floor has already had the carpet removed on the floor and prior owner used some faux wood based floor installed that did not hold up well at all.
