Trim pump

Checked both pucks on outdrive and took them apart and cleaned them and put dielectric grease on the contacts and made sure everything was clean of any rust. Tested the switch again still no change so I starting to suspect the switch just hate get another one for $60.00-$80.00 and find out that it isn't the problem either, don't like throwing money at a problem. How can I test the button switches at the switch to see if they have gone south. Like I said before the bottom button lowers the unit but nothing from the top and center one pushed separatly or both at the same time. It's really a confusing system, I'm really thinking of just using a two way momentary switch and not worry about the in and out trailer function. It is already trimmed in which is how I would run it anyway.

go to the trim pump and bypass the trim limit wires. If the trim now works with the buttons (middle and top together) you need a new limit switch

Is that where you disconnect the purple and blue wires and connect them together to bypass the trim limit switch? If so I tried that and tried the switch and still no result from the dash switch.

Doesn't holding the 2 top buttons bypass the limit switch already?
Have you tried switching the signal wires from the helm at the solenoid and motor? If the trim problem (operation) does not reverse as well, the problem is likely not in the helm buttons or wiring from it. If problem (operation) does reverse, try switching the signal wires coming out of the helm buttons to isolate the problem to wiring or buttons.

I tried a direct hot to the top and center buttons buttons but no response only the bottom button which will lower the outdrive has any response. I have another switch and cable ordered and will try that when it comes. These switches are from very old boats and who knows how long they last. If I can't figure out the proper way to get it to work I'm going to direct wire it from the back and set up a panel back there to operate it. You got to do what you got to do sometimes.
I can operate it by hot jumping the wires at solenoid and the pump so the pump is working and the solenoid also so I'm thinking it has to be in the switch up front or the wiring. I still want to find all the grounds and clean them all up even though have did and direct ground test already to the pump. I may try your idea and switch the down wire to the up position terminal and see if the down button makes it go up.

What did you find the solution was?

Thank you, I have similar info in Clymers book. What book is this?

I touched a trim position sender wire (starboard side) at the sterndrive. Some insulation flaked off. Ever since, it will not go down. It is stuck in the trailer position. Could the pump have stopped working b/c of this wire being faulty/old/connecting?

I've heard of people standing on the sterndrive to possibly make it go down and starting working. Is this a good idea?

My big concern is the pump makes no noise now. Never had that problem before. I have heard a click or two, but not consistently when pressing the switch (3 button) at the helm. Bypassing connections on the solenoid does not make anything work, even though all show correct power when checking with a test light. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
