Recently purchased a 2002 240SD. Has 2 remaining mounts and cables from electronics which did not come with boat. Have attached 2 pics. Looking for recommendations to remove 2 mounting brackets and cables and filling holes. Will purchase probably purchase a chart plotter next year just not needed at current lake. Thanks for reading.

Looks like that was for VHF radio. I would leave it and replace the VHF radio. Not sure how big or small your lake is but I would have a working VHF radio aboard regardless of the size of the waterway.

I agree 100%. It does have a working VHF radio.
One of the brackets is stamped with the Lowrance name so I am guessing it held a fish finder/chart plotter. The other bracket was for a old Garmin unit of kind with an antenna. The antenna has been removed and holes filled on side of boat.

I hate when people just drill holes! The correct answer is it needs to be filled and sprayed with matching gelcoat. Maybe see if you can find a good gelcoat person near you.

I would fill with marine tex or similar. Then try to match the gel coat as best as possible. Good luck.

So so many videos on this subject. The holes are basically 1/4 or less. Would you recommend marine tex 1st to fill hole and then come back with a matching gel coat? Thanks.

No.. You need a backing if a thru hole in thin fiberglass like tape or something

It looks like the bracket you want to remove is located on the textured non glare gel coat surface. If you go the gel coat route, that will be the challenge. I did this project on my 225WE. None of the shops near me that do gel coat repairs would touch it, they said there was no way to match the texture. After I did a lot of research and I tried a number of methods of duplicating that texture, I found I was unable to get it to look right. It eventually dawned on me that I could sand the textured gel coat to smooth. So I did smooth gel coat where I needed to patch, and then I relocated the borderline between the smooth and textured gel coat. So now a portion of the dash that was textured is now smooth, but you would never know I did it. It turned out perfectly, and actually looks like the factory did it that way. If you decide to go in that directiom, I’ll be glad to give you more details and help if I can.
