Newb made horrible newb mistake!

by the way, I been there and done that too with my first boat, a Crestliner Apollo, mine didn bent, just broke off

Been there done all that. Been boating for 30 years now and anybody who says they have never done that is a liar. Your only big mistake was not blaming it on the wife. Will not help with the repair but will make you atleast feel better

I started reading and when noticed your profile picture and nickname and made me think, "of course...a Glockie" lol

Sorry, I am a Glock hater so be prepared.

Sorry man for your lost, if you change that crappy Glock for a real gun like a 1911 things are gonna get better
Glock makes a great gun. It’s surprising how fast water will come in through that little drain hole.

Each time I drive to the dock, I pass the Boat ramp, the one that I left a gouge in with my skeg.

I can actually still see it if I look closely.

Being a bigger boat kind of a guy, I bought a 20' boat to do some lake boating when I was at my inland second home. Let me see....I have retrieved the boat onto the trailer several times with the outdrive in the down position. I hate the noise that makes. I have launched my boat once with the drain plug not being installed. Never realized I could run that fast. And the list goes on. The saying is that Good Judgement is learned from making bad mistakes. Each and everyone of us has been there. Just wished I learned good judgement when I was a lot younger. A bad day of boating is still better than a good day at work.

I've done it all. Pulling out with drive down. Starting engines with drive still fully up. Leaving plug out. And my favorite, I actually backed the trailer into the water with the transom tie down straps still in place. Didn't figure that out until I couldn't get the boat off the trailer.

One time I forgot to take a bow line off my 270 Sundeck. I'd back out, something didn't feel right, I'd go to neutral and the line would sort of slingshot me back into the slip....3 times before I realized what was wrong.

You guys are making me chuckle!

I can't wait until I do these things. The wife is going to have a field day! LOL

"Newb" stuff happens even with experienced boaters. My biggest protection from myself is to follow a routine.

Over the summer I didn't have my routine down yet with the new boat and forgot to disconnect both 30A cords from the dock. I remembered about 1 second after I put the boat into gear. With the big diesel and prop the boat moves in a hurry. Instantly I went from calm captain to nearly panicked at my own stupidity and the thought of both connections being ripped out of my brand new boat (thinking huge $$$ from potential damage). I reversed quickly but went into the dock and kind of pinballed around the slip. I finally got stopped and had my wife pin the boat against the dock with the thrusters while I disconnected the shore power.

Of course this was the one day when there were a bunch of people getting picked up at the dock by other boats. I'm sure I looked like a total idiot.
