Looking for a marine surveyor and wondering if anyone on the forum has used one from this area and their thoughts and experience. Thanks in advance.

Try Steve Colletti. He did my survey on our Crownline last summer. The number I have for him is 412-638-2070

Were you happy with his work; did what he said he would, had things done on time and gave you a completed report and etc?

I've used Greg Group out of Mentor, Ohio (note he does travel), our location is distance wise the same as going to Pittsburgh. He is what I'd call a buyers surveyor. If you're a seller, you probably won't want him because he'll find stuff you don't want the purchaser to know. I've used him three times over the past 10 yrs. On my most recent boat a 280, he spent the equivalent of a full day (which included a sea trial). Provided not only an extensive write-up but also boat history and pricing on similar boats sold over the past couple of years. He also walked me through every system on the boat - it was better than reading the manual Phone #216-408-8800

Yes. He spent about 6-8 hours total on the survey including sea trial. He checked over the engine and outdrive but admitted he was not a mechanical specialist but would give me a general assessment. He did spend some time in the bilge during the sea trial having us shift forward and reverse and turning. He also went into the cabin and had me hit waves at higher speeds to listed for 'huffing' (tin canning).

The first thing he did was check safety related items to ensure it was safe to sea trial. The boat had sat on the trailer for 3 years but the shop got it ready and running prior to the survey. He used a moisture meter but relied more on the percussion testing. He noted my anodes and bellows needed changed ASAP and the fresh water pump would run but not pump water (filter was plugged). He checked fuel hoses for dates to see if they were ok. Tested the electrical and the mercathode system. Pretty thorough. For our 25'er I think he charged about $600 and I got a 14 page report a few days later. He took about 100 pictures too. At the end of the day I asked him what he thought. He mentioned there were no deal breakers and nothing that would scare him away. The sellers also asked him how it went and he told them he could not give them any info as I was the one paying for it....lol.

If you call him tell him Dan that bought the Crownline that was sitting at Dockside Marine and was owned by a girl. I'm sure he will remember. The seller was very difficult and he was aware of this. He did our survey August 2018.
