Cruisers yachts copied the SLX 400

Galeon sure didn't come up with that on their own... You see it a lot on mega yachts

Probably not patentable, except maybe some very specific details that are easily designed around. As mentioned above big yachts have been doing this for a while. So whether it’s already been known for a long time or it’s an obvious thing to do, either or both would make it unpatentabile. What surprises me is it took this long for others to follow Galeon’s lead given their success.

Yes, but for some reason stupid sh!t keeps getting patented, like a house for sale on a map is patented. The likes of Realtors, Zillow etc. all pay the patent fee. If that can be done, why not a fold down boat hull?

This would be a device patent. Business method patents are different, and they have not been holding up very well.

What's the reliability track record for these folding boat platforms? I guess I would think one that was completely manual would be OK, but I'm guessing these are all some flavor of automagic hydraulic or motor-driven systems.

I guess the hydraulic swim platform concept seems mostly reliable, but I feel like in engineering they felt like they had to go the extra mile due to much of it being under or in the water all the time.

What do you do if your fold-down platform doesn't want to fold up?

There's sadly no originality coming out of any of the manufacturers these days. Designs like this won't stand the test of time and will be considered dated 10 years from now. I'll be looking at more classic boats when the time comes for the next one. A Sabre or similar perhaps ($$$ I know) ...but they never go out of style IMO

I’m generally a big fan of the KISS principle, but I think this is a great feature, and very innovative to put it in relatively small pleasure boats. One of the reasons, among many others, why we are seriously considering Galeon for our next boat.
