I pulled the lower drain plug in an engine, winterized and when I replaced it there was a steady leak streaming - see pic. You can see the stream of AF coming out below the plug
I think I need to replace this entire elbow/standpipe. Does anyone know what this piece is called or does for that matter. The open pipe sticking up is curious to me..

Thanks in advance.

Stick your phone down there and record a video to better see where the leak is coming from. There's a good chance you either just cross threaded the screw or the rubber o-ring fell off and you didn't realize it.

If the o ring is there and it’s still leaking, there is probably a crack at the 6 o’clock position underneath the drain plug. It’s svCommon spot for a crack on the
Distribution housing, can be caused by over tightening the drain plug.

Thanks very much for all of your replies! Yes, the o-ring is there and I tried the top plug into that receptical as well - still leaked. It must be cracked. ANother spring time job, just making the list... :(

Just dealt with the same situation while winterizing. Be prepared for "sticker shock" when you search for the new part. Lowest price I found was $168.00!

Be advised, almost all of the antifreeze will leak out over the winter from that crack.

ya.. I was thinking about that but the engine was drained. I ran it on muffs with AF and it should be ok - I think..

I had to replace it and I had about the same experience.

In a winterization post on CSR I suggested that owners be sure to drain that housing carefully to ensure no water remained. It seems like it collects water and is prone to freeze damage.

Replacing the part wasn't difficult. Just kind of annoying and relatively expensive.

ok - thanks again for all the advise. this is really a great site!

I was too pissed off at mercruiser to spend near $200 on that piece of crap. I took it off, cleaned it and used some jb weld plastic to seal the hairline crack. Worked so far this season.
