First trip to the Bahamas

Great pics. What type of range do you need on your boat to make this trip? A good 200 mile range, with 10-20% to spare, or do you need more? This is on my list, but next boat, or a friends boat, will need the range.

Todd,
You can easily do this trip with a 200 mile range. The longest leg would be approximately 82 miles from Bimini to Chub Cay in the Berry Islands. Passing Chub Cay and heading directly to Nassau add about 36 miles so you are still well under the 200 mile range. Miami to Nassau is approximately 160 miles and you are passing Bimini and the Berry Islands if you need to stop. Highbourne Marina (The 1st marina in the Exumas) is only about 32 miles from the south side of Nassau.

Just curious, what are fuel prices out on the islands?

Glad you made it into some of my favorite cruising grounds, the Exumas! I usually spend a couple weeks or more there a year. No picture could really do the water clarity justice!

Next up, head over to Eleuthera- Spanish Wells is great, but I really love Valentines on Harbour Island. Awesome town and pink sand beaches!

Agreed - long runs aren’t required

Diesel is 2.09 here. At least you have that and brown water when you get home hahaha. Thanks for sharing all the pics and info!

So, the next time in that direction spend some time along the Berry chain; on the west side of the islands are some great places to throw out the anchor (like Hoffmans Cay) and some hole-in-the-wall restaurants to spend time. Chubb, since they renovated the marina is definitely worth a couple of days....

Good to know -
I agree with your comment on Chubb, I’ve been there with others before

Here are the details of our run -
Left Lighthouse Point via Hillsboro inlet Sunday 10/20 morning
Short run to Bimini (3 hours) varying speeds etc as a shake down cruise. We stayed at Resorts World marina, great marina with floating docks. We rented a golf cart and explored the island, had conch salad and fritters at Joes for lunch and had dinner at Big Game Club. Water was a bit sporty with 2-3’ seas sloshing us around and making it a bit of a wet ride.

Monday we left at first light for a run to Highborne Cay (6 hours). The Highborne marina was great and was able to provide us some steaks to grill because the restaurant was closed on Monday. We rented a golf cart here as well and covered every bit of the island.

Tuesday we took it easy and went to Compass Cay to see the sharks then went on to Staniels Cay (roughly 4 hours total). The marina at Staniels is great, the marina bar was great.

Wednesday we ran to Nassau and Atlantis (4 hours). We stopped for fuel at Hurricane hole marina, very helpful dock guys there. We then tucked in to Atlantis marina, the marina was very slow so we got a great slip backing up to the resort area.

Thursday we left Atlantis at O’dark thirty only to be held for 40 minutes to let in a Carnival ship that was due in at 7:00 a.m. for the return to Lighthouse Point (7 hours). Our path back ran just south of Chubb and north of Bimini. Seas were predicted to be 3-5’ and we saw that pretty muck the entire way except some 6-8’s across the Gulf Stream.

Great photos and gorgeous boat. Love the pic of you two on the bow in the crystal clear water. It looks like the boat is on a lift. Grats on the first trip with her. Here’s to many more!

Great trip it looks like... We do trips to Bimini all during the summer when it is flat and no wind. Day trips to Honey Moon harbor, Sapona wreck and Cat Cay. Hoping to take our new 48 Sundancer the next trip in the spring if the deal goes through. Let me know if you are going again next year. We slip in Ft Lauderdale on the New River.

I won't be going in this boat for quite a while - I have it in Houston.
I've got some friends with boats in FLL & LHP that I hope to get an offer for a trip or two this year
