Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

does the infinity move alot when stepped on? specifically the swimdeck? what kinda costs

It does get slippery/slimy underneath once wet . If you pull it up and clean it once in a while it's fine.

The piece on my boat is only held down by 5 snaps and most of the time the 2 on the corners are not snapped so I can get access to the ladder.

The local guy did the entire boat inside and out for $600

I bet there's a local guy around your parts that do custom work. Ask around at your marina. The guy who did mine seems to be the go to person for the entire marina since he showed me many boats on quite a few docks that he said he did. BTW 98 vs 99 have a different interior layout.

One thing I was glad to change was I asked to have the helm floor covering made in 2 pieces with a seam along the engine hatch covers. It makes getting to the engines easier than dealing with a big piece of material like the OEM carpet.

This is what the inside looks like. I would change a few things if I did it again. But I do like the entire cohesive look of the entire boat.

I took my 98 290 with twin 5.0 efi out today on a chilly jersey cruise. First time i left side rear camper curtons on. Ran it for about 30 minutes and no problem. As i pulled back to about 1200 rpm i got a loud alarm. The same you get when first starting the motors. Its a constant loud alarm that sounds like it came from dash. All gauges read fine. Water temp, oil pressure and volts were good. Not sure what it was. Lasted like 5 minutes as i headed back to marina and then went off. Continued trip and never came back. Only question i have is there a co2 alarm in the cockpit? Thinking when i pulled back to slow exhaust came in and set something off. Cabin door was closed the whole time so i know its was not those co2 alarms. Any help?

None. Thought it was a high water alarm but dry. Also thought low drive oil but both are full to line. Stumped

Wish i was lucky like that but was in 40 ft in the arther kill. Doing zome looking on line and seems it can only be 3 things. Water temp, Oil pressure, drive oil low. All were good. Thinking back when i did look at gauges when alarm sounded oil pressure did drop lower then normal. Going to keep an eye on it. Never happened before. After it shut off everything was normal and oil pressure seemed good. Wierd

So we’ve been thinking/looking for a bigger boat for a while but I gotta say - heading down to this 290 alone, jumping on solo, and going for a ride in mid-october is pretty cool. Can’t imagine it would be that easy with a 40+ footer.

Beautiful day on Lake Ontario

I agree. The 290 is about the top end of the boat size I like to handle alone. I also launch and load on the trailer for day cruises. Getting this thing up on the trailer is a pretty tough job doing it solo. Looong docks are sooo nice...:D

Funny you say that, Strecker. Just last night I was thinking of how easy the 290 is to single-hand; I believe I have now docked solo more than with the first mate.
We made an offer on a 340 and it was accepted but we haven't done the survey/mechanical inspection/sea trial yet, so we are early in the process. But I suspect you may be right about single-handing the 290.
I have been meaning to thank you and Ducky for the consistent posts you guys have made on this 290 board. I've learned quite a bit from you guys, and your posts have added to the ownership of the boat.

Good luck on the 340! That's a great boat and they handle wonderfully with V-Drives (IO is probably fine too I've just never been on one) so I'm sure you'll get the hang of single handing the new boat just the same.

I'm happy to keep this thread going, it's a great boat!

Obligatory cover shot. As much as I hate this time of year and wrestling the fisher canvas up there, it’s pretty awesome once it’s done. It was legitimately warm in there when the sun came out, the fabric breathes really well. Not really any projects planned for this winter for
once...

They look so big when they are blocked up like that. And they get bigger as you start waxing one side...

That’s for sure. I polished topsides before wrapping her this. Hopefully it’ll save some time in March

The soft hose inside the metal flex casing might have kinked, mine did. You could unscrew the faucet and see if you get full pressure from the line but I bet it’s the rubber interior hose.

This must have been it. In the last 2 weeks I was away from the boat the kinked area must have relaxed. I had a great shower today.

That’s a lot of canvas there Strecker! WOW!:)

Here’s my ole girl tucked away in my nice warm shed for the winter.

Had to drop the arch to squeeze her through the 12ft door.

Let the winter projects begin!
