I have a 2002 340 Sundancer with 8.1 Mercruisers. Tried to start starboard engine and did not hear fuel pressuring (that whir just as you press start switch). Engine cranked over, but no start. Luckily we were in our slip at marina.

I strongly suspect a fuel pump problem. My questions are:

1) Can it be anything other than fuel pump?
2) If I change the starboard fuel pump should I be cautious and change the port one at the same time (I am having manifolds and elbows done so was thinking so long as things are apart - right?)
3) And as things are apart for manifolds should I replace the engine oil coolers (even though I do not seem to be having a problem there.....yet) as a very experienced boat owner advised me?

Fuel pump relay is a common problem too.
Do you have power AND ground at the pump harness when you turn the key?

Check that before digging into the pump replacement.

There are two pumps per engine. One for high pressure and the other for high flow. Check with the other engine which one causes the buzzing and swap'm out with the other engine. If it solves your issue it proves the pump is shot.

Agree with Espos the fuel pump relay failure is common problem. I suggest you even carry a spare.
