there are some rumors floating around that the Lancaster Family in Mooresville, NC has bought the Midway Marina on Lake Norman and plans to tear down the marina and build condos on the site....

can anyone confirm that?....if true we may be interested in buying one of the new condos if the price isn't too bad....i am retiring in July and the Admiral will retire in the next year or two so the timing is good....

I thought they bought it 4-5 years ago? Rumor at that time is they were going to move the dock building business there from next to Skipper's in Troutman.

with all of the damage to the covered docks from the snow a few weeks ago i wonder if they will repair the docks or use this opportunity to go ahead with any plans for changes at the marina....and those docks were in really poor condition, even before the snow damage....

Rumors about that site have been around for years, here is an article from when the Lancaster's took over in 2009. They talked about big plans then, but I don't think much has changed. Apparently they had a 10yr lease on the property, which would be up this year, so maybe something is about to happen. It's a pretty run down place, but I do like the BoatHouse Restaurant.

Those docks are in rough shape. There was a guy on this sight that kept his boat there. Scootdog I think his handle was.
Nice guy. Moved up to Cat's Paw condos. Sold the boat I think.
It would be nice for a refresh. Spent a lot of time at the BoatHouse when I had my boat.

Yeah, i grew up hanging around that marina some....i had a good friend that worked there part time during the high school term and full time in the summer....i used to visit him frequently at the marina....it would be sad to see it go but progress is also good....i imagine it would be VERY expensive to restore the docks to decent condition so it might be cost prohibitive....especially if the lease has terminated....

I bet it will be $$$. Curious as to who pays for the 17 slips that are reserved for the BoatHouse?

I would think, even if they do build condos, there would be a demand for slips.

Time is moving on - found out the Boathouse Grill closed for good October 3rd. Word is the property that encompass that whole cove is really being sold - plans to develop an upscale condo/marina - I suppose there will be a restaurant also. Sad, the Boathouse was one of my favorite places on the lake.
