7.4 Carb V drives
I am looking for help in running the battery cables from the engine room to a new inverter in the cabin, then tying that into the AC/DC panel in the boat, since there is no generator, I want to use the switch for gen for the inverter so not to accidentally switch on inverter while on shore power.
Just looking for cable and wire routing help and inverter mounting location ideas.
Thanks!

You want to keep the 12v feeds from battery as short as possible. I put my inverter in the starboard storage right over top of the water heater. My 6v batteries are in a box just behind the heater so it is a straight up run to the inverter. I have not tied the inverter into the panel. I just run a shore power cable from the inverter, along under the rear seat and arount to a shorepower inlet. I thought about wiring it in but for what I use it for, this works for me.

my inverter is mounted in the same place except on the left side behind the water spicket almost above the batteries. it goes to port side where my shore cables come and i have a selector switch under the cabinet. marked inverter / shore power. i figured it out one day by myself. the preveois owner knew nothing about it....lol

This (below) would be the correct way to integrate an inverter with shore power and generator power (this was the configuration for my previous 400DA). This inverter has an integrated transfer switch:
