Hello all, I have a 1998 Sea Ray 400 express twin 8.1 horizons.

I have a question for anyone who has or had the factory B&G network autopilot. Like a dummy I removed the autopilot head unit and pump (Pump was leaking) The rest of the autopilot still exists in the boat. I would like to know if anyone knows what model pump it was? I'd like to get autopilot up and working again. Even if cant get the B&G stuff to work, I would add a different set up. But the pump model would help for me to compare to other manufacturers to get a new pump from either Garmin or Raymarine. My original pump was mounted under the dash behind the steering wheel. I know Garmin has a smart pump but it comes with a smart price tag. Thanks!

I had the same set up on my 97 400DA. Replaced everything with Garmin except the pump and ram. Just make sure you get the Garmin control head that works with something other than their sustenance. That's a major issue when retrofitting this system to any previous install boat system. I had the pump rebuilt by Boat Steer. Think they are in Tampa. Anyway, the guys name is Butch. Least that's the POC 5 years ago. Phone (813-785-7146). My system worked fine once I got everything sharing data on NMEA 183. B&G systems of that era have some proprietary computer language that just don't talk to the new stuff. Believe me, I tried.

Thanks for the info, I prefer to go new, Raymarine or Garmin. But don't want to spend for the Garmin Smart pump. So i need to know the pump make and model it came with so I can compare and get a new one. I'll try that phone number tomorrow and see if they can help; Thanks again!

I got that; Garmin is ever so proud of their Smart Pump. When talking to Garmin make sure they know you will be using an existing pump. That will make a difference in the control head.

Also, call the guys at SeaRay tech support at Marrett Island. Have your hull number ready. They can tell you the components of your system. Least they have been able to help me out in that regard. That's 865-971-6415 and follow to prompts.

Thank you for all your help. I will try Sea Ray tech support. I never thought to call them.

Sea Ray Customer Service can only help if they installed the electronics on your boat at the factory. Many Merritt island boats were rigged with electronics at the dealer after the boat was delivered. Sea Ray has no record if your boat was one of those.

B&G is still in business in the US and there are 2 service centers that may be able to help you:

Thank you good point. Ill try them all.

Hi everyone, I called Sea Ray tech support. They gave me the pump part number for the B&G pump, but it didn't show up anywhere at first, kept looking and think I may have it now. I found one that should be it on ebay, new but not in factory box for $560.00 bucks. Then I had to find an old head unit and power cord also on ebay, used complete set minus pump for $360.00. I sent a message to see if they would sell just the head unit(Display). Just not sure which way to go on it yet, but leaning toward Garmin.

So....

They Sea Ray Tech gave me the company Sea Ray used to buy the stuff from Gulf stream marine 727-546-5029 (Susie was terrific) I then called Sea Ray back to get the specs on my steering cylinder. I gave all that to Susie at Gulf Stream and she contacted Garmin (she is a Garmin dealer). Garmin of course was pushing their expensive smart pump, but said their 1.2 liter pump would work along with their Reactor 40 system. So now I know pretty much all I need to know. Most likely if I do this I will go forward to Garmin, rather than backward to get the B&G old stuff working. I want to thank everyone who helped out with this post, I really appreciate it.

If you shit can the B&G stuff, please let me know. Thanks! Dan
