I'm still in the middle of my decks carpet to EVA foam padding upgrade and while I have the seats out, I decided to recover the back2back seat boxes with marine vinyl in place of the outdated carpet. While everything turned out just ok, I'm looking for any ideas on how to eliminate this inside corner eye sore. Basically, when stretching out the vinyl to cover a 90 degree inside angle, a 45 degree split must be made to allow both edges to lay flat. While it's possible to stretch the vinyl to wrap around inside corners on pieces that are about 1/4" thick, this particular area is about 1" thick so the inside corner can't be covered perfectly. The guys at Searay tucked a piece of carpet at each inside edge to fill in the gap (see pic) when they wrapped the seat boxes in carpet. I tried the same technique with the vinyl.. and let's just say it's not a perfect as I want it to be. Anyone have any ideas on how I can cover this eyesore? My wife says it's an area of the boat that isn't really seen, but my OCD wants to make it a good as it can be. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated!

Cut a piece of vinyl the length of the flat surface opening and glue it down along the lower portion of the opening from end to end. Then make piping out of the same material and glue it around the entire opening to hide the seam between the new strip and the existing vinyl.
 
How about a white starbord door over the opening? Could top or bottom piano hinge it with a short gas strut to hold it open and closed. If you wanted it vented you could cut slits in it.
 
I know this is going to cause calls for the return of my guy card, but it looks great, and your wife is right. Once it’s out of your dinning room and back on the boat no one is going to see, or care about it. Otherwise, I’d go with Creekwood’s starboard cubby doors solution.

I would consider an aluminum or SS 1 inch trim made in one piece with the seam on the top and installed with countersunk flush screws. It would provide maximum protection from chafing of your new vinyl by various items shoved in the storage area.
Looks great by the way. I really dislike carpet on boats for some reason.

Thanks for the input. I fabricated a lid for the opening. The local Joann's crafts store had vanilla colored marine grade vinyl that matched my seats well, so I went with that to give the seat boxes a 2 toned look. Home Depot had some stainless steel drawer catches to hold it in place. The end result isnt too shabby. Much better than without the lid and now the inside corner eye sore is covered. I may finish it off with some type of drawer pull and possibly a Searay emblem of some sort. I will look into the idea of protecting the inside lip of the vinyl from damage as suggested. Great job. When i re upholstered my s24 sorrento i got aluminum L track. 1/2 x1 it was easy to bend around things and was secured on the backside

I used this. Its actually for tile floor transitions. Can be bought at home depot or lowes. Second is another choice.
