The Head, To Use Or Not To Use, That Is The Question?

I live on my boat. It’s a 34 foot express cruiser.
We have a brand new bath and laundry house for the live aboards.

I’ve only used the head once or twice due to it pouring rain and the need to “go now”

We pumped it out a couple weeks ago and it was pretty clean. I filled it again and pumped it so clear water came out.
It apparently was not used much for the age of the boat. I did treat it first however.

It will be very cold this winter so I’ll be pumping it with the rest of the live aboards as it’s a hundred yard walk uphill both ways. When it’s -25 deg that a mighty cold walk.

We use Scott brand RV paper as sparingly as possible and never had a clog.

Someone here, don’t remember who, had the rule that you could put anything in the toilet that you want, as long as you put it in your mouth first.......

Always made me laugh!

In my 340 I had the “Rule of 3”. 3 sheets, 3 times and flush holding the pedal down for 3 seconds. Or you clean the clog.

Never had an issue.

HEY! I resemble that remark. Ain't nobody gonna drink no red wine on my boat, no how, no way. The red wine consumption section is the same as the smoking section--they're both 25' aft of the swim platform. Unless we're on plane, then it's only 20'.

I don't have a red wine restriction on our boat. Then again, its normally only me and my wife that drink it on the boat. Life's too short to not have a glass or two of red wine as you watch the sun set after dinner. Never while underway though. I do have these neat "wine glasses" that we sometimes use after one or two glasses.

Close but in my case I have a fear of plumbing repair.... I hate and despise plumbing to the point of throwing up a bit in my mouth coupled with small convulsions .... The only thing worse than doing it myself is paying a plumber to do it. :)

So to minimize an opportunity for a #2 repair... we use the toilet primarily for #1 and we walk to use facilities for #2 unless there aren't any or there is an urgent need.

Amen!

For those that undertake repairing the "system" you can put some Vicks Vapo Rub on a disposable dust mask to help disguise the odor. Other type of air fresheners can also help. If you use a wet shop vac to clear out clogged lines add some liquid deodorant to the tank before beginning.

We use the head when we are out on the water. When at the dock its a short walk to the clubhouse which has great bathroom and shower facilities. I encourage #2 at the clubhouse unless its in the middle of the night.

Ew. If I had to use a shop vac that shop vac is going in the dumpster after. I would buy a cheap one and toss it.

Take a dump it's a toilet!!! My friends will never anchor out because they won't use the potty. That's a waist of a boat and enjoying extended time on the hook!

Just use Noflex Digestor to break down toilet tissue, waste, and keep your tank healthy and happy. Winterizing, Shut down-Leaving for More Than a Week Pump out first, Pour 2 Tbs Noflex per 10 gallons tank capacity into the external pump out fitting followed by at least 5 gallons of water or RV Antifreeze, 2 Tbsp. to the toilet(s) flushed with a couple gallons or 30 sec of continuous flow, or RV Antifreeze only. Do not use auto antifreeze. ANTIFREEZE WINTERIZING WARNING! DO NOT USE AUTOMOBILE ANTIFREEZE, NOFLEX IS VERY COMPATIBLE WITH RV ANTIFREEZE ONLY! Liberal use of RV Antifreeze is OK- recommended.

Used mine around 2 this morning. Again about 5 miles out of boca grande inlet after we cleared the shoals and turned north...

Boaters Mate, is what you're advertising for $33 any different from what Fisheries Supply is selling for $20? Wassupwidat?

In my mind this is a silly question. I hear people say they don't crap on their boat and I generally find myself walking away shaking my head with a grin on my face. In my mind the head is one of the most life enhancing features of our boat. I just don't understand why someone would not want to used a nice lovely toilet.
