Have to trailer my my 310 this year roughly 4 miles my question is what to use to strap the transom to the trailer. Any thing for boat trailer seem a little under sized for this task.I'm considering just using 2" ratchet straps. The trailer was built for the boat and my truck is capable for the job.

Like you, I only tow a few miles to storage. I only strap the bow down so it won't bounce... that boat ain't going anywhere!

Realizing that the boat is going to go wherever it's momentum dictates, I use two 10K lb 2.5" ratchet straps on each rear corner in the hopes of keeping the trailer underneath the hull. They're readily available from U-Line, HomeDepot.com, etc.

If you have to make a maneuver that sends one of these boats off the trailer, you've had a really bad day and bad things are going to happen!

I trailer a 310 120 miles round trip every weekend. I have 2” polyester straps (10,000 lb break) on transom and a 2” over the bow. no issues

I too used 10k rated straps on my 270DA. It really is about keeping the trailer under the boat. On the other end I used another 10k strap pulling to a trailer brace about 5 feet back of the bow eye. The greatest force a boat will exert on the trailer is forward during panic braking. The safety chain and winch strap are not built to hold a trailer back in that situation.

It is disappointing that the trailer mfg do not set up the bigger trailers better than they do for the load they are intended for.

I have a pretty beefy turnbuckle attached to the bow eye down to the trailer. Not sure what the rating is but better than nothing. I also have a safety chain and the 2" winch strap and smaller rachet straps on the transom.

Trip went without any problems. Trailering in an area that way bigger boat are trailered also made the trip an ease. My new to me truck was fine also.

What are you towing with? What kind of route do you have? We typically go to three different lakes. 140 miles rt, 160 miles rt or 180 miles rt. One is all state rds the other two are 3/4 interstates. The ecoboost f150 has no trouble with the 240DA even with full tanks. But, we intend on moving up to 310-330DA in a couple years. Getting too damn old to crawl into that aft cabin!

I tow my 94 300 DA
I have no problems towing, mostly 20 miles to lake. But also to Charleston SC area about 180 miles. Love the flexibility and not worrying about an unattended boat for days or weeks in a marina.

2001 Ram 2500 2x2 Cummins diesel Quad cab 8ft bed with heavy fiberglass cap and 12,000lb winch on a front receiver. Upgraded rear hitch to 17,000 lb. Triaxle Loadrite trailer roller not bunk. Upgraded trailer to electric over hydraulic brakes, 4000lb electric winch on post.

I am 63 and with the rig I have can single launch it, the wife has some health limitations.

Think careful on this before you commit its not just the tow vehicle. Its a system as described before everything is heavy duty, tie downs, chocks, brakes, wide load permit, etc
A quick check for specs says
A 310 is 9.5ft wide @8600lb
A 330 is 10.5ft wide @14000lb

My 300 is 10.5 @ 8500
But with outfit, fuel and water is 11,500
3500 for the trailer
6000 for the truck
21,000 CGVW on scales
This is my CGVWR maximum limit for my truck
I try never to tow with much fuel and run the tanks down before a long trip and dump the water
saves 1500 lbs

A 330 would need a F350 HD

Happy to detail the whys and wherefore of all the above if you decided to go forward.

I'm guessing you are looking at specs for a much newer boat. The OP's 2000 310, is significantly wider and heavier than that.

You are correct that was a NADA hit for a 2010

a 2000 is 11’ 2” @ 12,000lb
Big boat definitely the F350 HD range

I hope to follow in your footsteps in a few years. It is good to see responses to all these questions. I have read several posts for wide load permits, height restrictions, weight restrictions. But, it is these second thought questions you get the real feel with. It is a lot more than just deciding between a F350 and F450.

Pat:

All really good info!!!

I'm placing offers on 330's in the Midwest (delivering to Lake Havasu, AZ).

I bought my tow vehicle in advance of the boat: a 1999 Ford F350 with a 7.3. I had a 20k LB. hitch installed and have a 15k ball insert (couldn't find a 20k ball!).

I will be buying new tires all around and beefing up the rear suspension. All positive suggestions for these and other upgrades would be welcome.

Thanks.

I bought this hitch last year, it's rated at 20,000lbs.
