I recently bought my boat. I plan on winterizing the boat by myself this year instead of (Bust Out Another Thousand) (B.O.A.T). I have gotten all the part numbers for Fuel Filers, Oil Filters, and Racor filters. Quick questions regarding the type of engine oil and capacity it takes. I changed my transmission oil in the beginning of the year, which was SAE 30 and that took 4 quarts. Anyone have any information regarding the weight of the oil and oil capacity per engine? Im gonna post all the part umbers I have down below so feel free to let me know if they are the proper filters to be used, or if there is anything better. Also any steps to winterizing would be appreciated and helpful tips when winterizing the motors, a/c unit, or the water system feel free to send them to me!

There is a whole thread dedicated to the QSC in the Diesel section.

QSC oil is 15W-40, I use RotellaT4, but you can use any oil that meets the spec - NOT Synthetic - these are all "hybrids or dino oil only.

Oil Capacity is 5 gallons, but its suggested you run at the low point of the dipstick. I prefill my filters, almost 3/4 gallon goes in! After that I add 3.5 gallons to the sump with the reverso, and fill from there based on the "low" mark on the dipstick, usually takes just under 4 gallons in the sump.

I always use Cummins filters LF9009 is the oil filter.

The Generator uses the same 15W-40, about a gallon. Again I use Onan filter 185-5835.

Fuel filters, the on engine for the QSC is FF5488, I use a 30 micron Racor, but 10 micron cal also be used so RAC2040N-10 or RAC2040N-30.

Prefill the Racor but DO NOT prefill the FF5488. To prime the engine rock the ignition to on, wait the 20 seconds for the fuel pump to shut off (you will hear it if the engine hatch is open), shut ignition off for 10 seconds, repeat about 20 times. After that try a startup, if it doesn't catch within 3-4 seconds, repeat above another 10 times. To make it easier I usually do Racor first, startup and then the on engine, it makes the bleeding process easier. It also helps to change filters on a full tank.

Generator filters are Onan ONAA026K278 and Racor RA2010PM. Again prefill the racor, but just prime the generator 2-3 times before starting to fill the secondary on engine filter.

Other than that, I flush everything with fresh water, then switch to expensive "engine" antifreeze as it adds some lubricants but more importantly does not have any alcohol to dry out any gaskets.

To flush I took a 15 gallon rubbermaid bucket, attached a 1.5" hose to is and made an adaptor that fits over the strainers. The QSC pulls an amazing amount of cooling water, it will drain the 15 gallons in less than a minute, so I run the hose into it and have another 3-4 5 gallon buckets ready to dump in so I can run for a couple of minutes at at time. It will chew through 6 gallons of antifreeze per engine.

I purchase 18 gallons of "engine" antifreeze, 6 gallons for each engine, 2 for generator, 3 for AC, and 1 for heads.

For the heads I use 1 gallon in each head of the cheap stuff, then half gallon of engine again so the seals don't dry out.

The water system I blow out and then use cheap stuff in the lines only, not in the tank.
