420 DA Thread

Mine has been fine and I didn't change any of the wiring. Only thing was the base mounting holes were not in the same position as original.

Does anyone's Freshwater pump cycle every now and again? I mean, so infrequently that you just don't want to devote the time to hunt down that leak? I did. Maybe once an hour or so the pump would cycle on for just a few seconds. It wasn't enough to get the Admiral's attention, but it really did work on my nerves.

This past Thursday, the pump was cycling every 10 minutes, if not less. It got so bad in the night, that I turned the breaker off. The next morning I began the search. Not seeing anything evident in the engine room, I went to the aft cabin. I pulled out the bed and removed the cushions so that I could see that "inspection hole". There was a bit of water on top. I turned on a faucet, and sure enough, the water was "wiggling", as if more water was coming in.

I completely removed the aft cabin bed, which actually wasn't too hard.
Zooming in to the water lines in the back....

This last picture, you can see the hole, which was caused by the screw holding the sliding portion of the bed afixed to the foundation. There are 3 screws that hold this down in the back. The center screw is the one that cause a puncture. The screw on the starboard side, was also impinging on the water line. They used screws that were way too long!

So if you are looking for something to do, remove one of those screws. If it is longer than 3/4" or maybe 1" max, then change them!

Instrumentation Illumination.....It just rolls off of the tongue. So, I was all hot to trot to change my instrument panel gauge lights to LED. Read many posts about how easy it is. Just buy a socket and the LED bulbs, viola. Well, as it turns out, my 2004 model Sea Ray has the "Next Generation" Teleflex gauges. What does that mean? It means they are sealed. The backside of them are just a black, plastic cylinder with a pigtail. I spoke with a rep at VeeThree Instruments in Florida. He was VERY helpful, but unfortunately, had to break the bad news to me.

Has anyone had the nerve to "break in to the sealed gauge"? He said that he couldn't recommend doing that, but he couldn't stop me.

Thoughts?

Jaybeaux/Blueone - How far did you guys get with this project? I was cruising Saturday evening for the first evening run ever and I had no Instrument Illumination. I am already fighting electrical gremlins with my Port gauges not working but now they don't even illuminate. Either side.. Any ideas on what I should look at? I assume they come on when I turn my Navigation lights on.....

I don't really know about opening the instrument gauges up but I would simply suggest that you have indeed turned on your nav lights following which you will/should see your dash lights come on including the blue lights in the magnetic compass and the white remote radio control pad on the dash. I would mention that there is dimmer switch to control all the panel lights. So make sure that it's turned all the way up then decide if your gauge lights work or not.

I called the instrument manufacturer. Unfortunately, my model year was the year they got "smart" and went to a sealed instrument. No way to replace the bulb. :(

The compass was lit, I have replaced the halogen strip under the dash panel switches with an LED tape which works great, and the dimmer continued to work the LED strip. It was bright so I didn't attempt the dimmer, plus the compass was lit up. I'll work the dimmer and see what happens.

Added a 3rd screen where the glove box was located, Raymarine 9” Axiom fit perfectly NO cutting. If I or the next owner wants to they can take the screen out ant put the glove box back if wanted, no holes are even drilled. This screen will be primarily for my new PTZ FLIR. All screens/ autopilot/ heading sensor/ AIS/ 2 depth sounders are all linked through NMEA 2000

Note mew steering wheel! ;)

got to love NMEA2000 - your the picture of interoperability!

Raymarine, Garmin and Furuno all on the same dashboard!

Scott, I know it’s a little crazy but I really capitalize on the best that each offers. I was a little concerned about the different brands, but now with the FLIR the Raymarine Axiom offers there software that makes it really cool. And not to mention the latest software has the interface for the dji Mavic Pro!! ;)

I don't recall who wanted it , but I found the roll of boot stripe for the 44 DA with pewter hull . ( idk if its different for a white hull )

I'm curious about the paint. How long have you had it, what you think of it. What type? What's involved to ready the boat? Do they just paint around windows, thru hulls? $ Cost?

So this past weekend I learned a bit more about the Air Condition system and the importance of cleaning strainers. My salon AC unit was throwing a code of HI PS but the Stateroom AC was fine. I knew the code meant poor water flow. So I opened the strainer and sure enough it was clogged 90%. Cleaned it up and was ready to roll however, the pump itself was not pumping. I had water flow but it was humming and heating up only. I noticed that when I turned on the A/C from either thermostat that both pumps were being called on. I did not know both pumps come on/off at same time regardless of thermostat in use. I thought there was a pump for the Stateroom and the other pump was for Salon and cockpit. But regardless of which thermostat is calling both pumps will run. Apparently, the lack of water thru strainer fried my Salon AC pump so this morning a new one is being installed. Lesson learned -check them strainers.

I have a Ray240 complete set that I just pulled from the boat during a recent electronics upgrade. I am not sure if it is compatible with the ray230 but if so I will part ways with it.
Any chance you still have the Ray240 handset?
