I have a 2007 44 sedan bridge and trying to replace waste filter seems impossible to reach. It’s up high on the port side behind the head pump with no access from above. Does anyone have any advice ???

Subscribed. Mine is 8 years old. What's the normal replacement cycle?

I would always change once a year on my other boats which were easy to get to.

As long as you do not overfill the tank, I have never seen a need or any difference if changed.

I am 6’4” and have pretty long arms. I changed ours when we first got the boat by removing the ladder and stretching over and under the port side exhaust pipe. Short of removing the exhaust pipe, I see no other way.

Does it give off a terrible odor outside of boat, like my neighbors?

Mine is in a similarly inconvenient spot.
I’ve got to wedge myself behind the port motor and reach it blindly with my left hand (I’m right handed).
It takes some doing to get in there, but the good news is that it’s a 3/4” hose fitting that is just hand tight and once you do it you can do as others have mentioned and extend the life of the filter by not letting it get wet.
It will get wet if you overfill your tank to the point where liquid comes out of the vent. This most often happens when boat owners flush their waste tanks by filling it with water from a hose after pumping out and then pumping out that water.
Very common for boaters to do that. The problem is that it’s hard to keep track of how much water that hose is pushing in to the tank and you don’t know it’s full until it comes out the vent. Once that happens the filter needs to be changed.

But, Dennis, wouldn't this be a one and done approach? If the vent filter has been saturated, the kid will learn all he wants to about changing them on his first $20.

6’4 says it all. I will try to find a tall friend lol

I'll add this... there's usually a 13-year old kid around the docks that would be VERY happy to make $20...

That’s a good idea. Pretty easy $20.00 for a 13 year old kid.
