Whats the avg cost of complete exhaust job for both motors, Manifolds Risers and elbows.

Dry joint exhaust with Mercruiser parts? How many spacers do you have?

I’d say $2,400-$3k per motor if you don’t lift a finger and have a shop do everything.

It is a very straightforward repair that just about anyone can do themselves, it’s even easier with a second set of hands.

Do it yourself and you’ll be around $1,400-$1,500 per motor.

I did both my 1998 5.0 mercs this winter. All parts were bought on e bay. Manifolds, risers, 3 inch spacers, flappers and all rubber bellows that connect to risers and y pipe. All in was $1,600 . Yes they are not OEM but now on a schedual.to replace every 3 years so every dollar saved is huge. Took my time and did both motors in 1 day. I believe wrenching on your boat if ya can is money well saved and the complete satisfaction of a job well done

I figured around 6k. I have a mobile mechanic that comes out and he's giving an estimate. He wants to use OEM Mercruiser B/C they have an expoxy coating inside.
I was just inquiring what others think. I have done the job on my 7.4, alone , a few years back and it is straight forward. Big block parts are HEAVY!
I may do it my self if I can get it to the boat yard. Im on borrowed time, thinking the exhausts are original:eek:. 13yr olds
I was hoping to get a few more uses this year, but I'd have to move boat to the boat yard 2 hrs away and Im actually afraid of a major overheat/water incursion event, that how unstable it seems from last ride this weekend.
Hence the mechanic, he can do it in a day in the water, etc.

Also, you jersey guys concerned about this fri and the wind/surge. what are your plans

I assume you will store you boat over in Forked River for the winter? If so, I would have Silver Cloud Marine do the work over the winter... This way you won't loose anytime on your boat. As far as the storm surge... I don't care my insurance is paid up, and I don't anticipate much affects from the storm...

Im not really. Windfinder does say fri night 35 mph wind and 8 ft seas. Im in keyport right off the raritan bay. Marina has floating docks and i have 2 posts off bow. Most im gonna do is double rope my bow to floating dock.

Thanks for replys, I moved the boat forward and doubled the spring lines since the wind was at by bow primarily.
Rechnecht, I think I am storing in Bricktown. BB marina. Its closer to home so I can head over to do the smaller projects as needed.

About $1450 for manifolds and elbows and another $500 for spacers and gaskets...you are looking at $2k per motor if you go OEM. I have no idea how much a marina would charge to replace them, but it is a very easy DIY project that only requires a few basic tools and a torque wrench. Since the manifolds are heavy and awkward you can make a temporary mounting studs by cutting the heads off one or two of the old manifold bolts to aid with the installation.

When i did mine i tried the bolt aid. It did not work. I did not have enough room in the compartment to put bolt in and slide manifold on. You just have to either get a second hand or muscle up and hold it. They are heavy but can be done. Take your time and as soon as u get 1 bolt started it takes the weight. DO NOT PUT RISER ON BEFORE. i put riser studs on to assist in holding it.

Where space is limited, You can use shorter bolts. Even if they only stick out 1” from the cylinder head, they will help support the weight.

Just cut a slot in the end of the bolt and you can use a screwdriver to remove it when you’re done.
