For those not aware it looks like there was a major fire in the restaurant last night at Watch Hill. Hoping that Doug and the rest of the staff are all ok.

That’s horrible. We were planning on going there Saturday.

Saw that on Patch today. Terrible!

8 slips have been blocked off. The rest of the marina is usable.

The worst damage looks to be the bar and snack stand. The roof burned through and other portions collapsed.

I’ve been wait listed for Sailor’s Haven for almost two weeks for tomorrow through Sunday. Not a huge Watch Hill fan, but was considering it as a backup plan. Between the fire at WH and weather report for tomorrow I decided to skip the weekend trip. Just cancelled my waitlist on Dockwa this morning.

FYI
I spoke to the Dockmaster at watch hill.

Rates changed to $1/ft weekdays and $2.50/ft for weekends.

Yeah, that’s the same deal at Sailor’s Haven. Same vendor.
Watch Hill is a little too far off the beaten path for me. Not enough to do there unless you go with a group.
Makes it that much more of a PIA for my daughter to take the train out from the city and ferry over to meet us too.
My wife and I also like to Water Taxi one of the nights to OB for dinner and walk over to Cherry Grove on another night. Sailor’s Haven is much better for that.
But this is the Miss FI weekend and Sailor’s Haven waitlisted me because of my beam.
We talked about just going to Watch Hill instead because they have more of the wider slips, but once I saw the Restaurant burned it lost it’s appeal.

Definitely a hike from you. Hope the winds cooperate and we can all have a good weekend.

It’s not the distance to Watch Hill, it's a pretty quick and easy trip for me, it’s the distance that Watch Hill is from anything else once I get there that I don’t like.
The bugs can be killer there too!
While we typically have breakfast and lunch on the boat when we overnight somewhere, we like to go out to dinner.
Watch Hill is too long a distance from other places. If the restaurant isn’t open there we don’t even have that as a choice for dinner.
It’s also a PIA for my daughter to come out from the city. That much further she has to take the LIRR and less frequent ferry schedule.
Hopeful you’ll have some nice weather for tomorrow.

What about casino restaurant at Davis ?

After the endorsements here for the Restaurant at Davis Park, we’ll definitely have to give it a try at some point. Might possibly do an overnight as a non resident in Davis Park Marina. I’ve heard there is usually availability for non residents.
Stayed at Watch Hill a few times over the years, mostly because we had friends that were going with their boat, but don’t personally care for it too much.
Way too many bugs if there is no wind and too isolated from the rest of Fire Island for our taste. We like being a shorter water taxi ride to places like Ocean Beach.
Watch Hill is probably a better location for those that are looking for the quiet seclusion, or traveling with several other boats.
To each his own.

Watch Hill is definitely better geared for the quiet relaxing. Doug was working hard out there this year to improve the restaurant and entertainment but with a early last ferry it quiets down nicely at night. The walk to Davis Park is not too far and is concrete and boardwalk.

This year the bugs were virtually non-existent and probably the best year that I have seen for them over the years. Who knows what next year holds. I am told it is very nice in the early season.

Davis seems much busier and and probably more like a Tobay crowd since it caterers to the town. Neither have the options that Ocean Beach have but while I like OB it sometimes it seems much to commercial for me. I also did like Atlantique but again it was a town marina so we were limited with entrance days and for a couple of years we were treated poorly as guests even though we were paying highly inflated rates. I did hear that that changed but I have not been back in a couple of years. The nice part is it's a quick water taxi or walk over to Ocean Beach.

Seaview would be my choice but they are quite expensive over the summer and there is limited availability.

But seeing how this post was originally about Watch Hill lets hope Doug and crew can take this opportunity to rebuild even better.
