Planning to mount a Hurley tradition davit onto my platform on my 420AC. The platform is a one piece unit that is part of the hull so you can not access the bottom like the DA's. There is a locker opening on the platform to store bumpers and things and there is a liner mounted in this are with its own sump pump.

My plan is to cut one opening in the fiberglass tub...4" inspection hatch with o ring seal to hold the nuts from the mount. It needs 2 thru bolts per mount and I can get my arm into this area to handle both mounts (36" apart). The platform is cored so was planning to mount holes, then fill in with fiberglass resin and drill again to seal the coring. Hurley has no experience with this type of enclosed swim platform (hard to believe).
I have a 9'-6" inflatable with a soft bottom. Hoping to be able to leave my 5hp motor on the dink while cruising.

Any suggestions on approach?
Thanks,
Ed

How high off the water is your platform?

My platform is 21" off the water, doesn't look like lit but put a tape measure to it to be sure.

I originally had the H20 mounts with a dinghy/motor combo of similar weight to yours and it was a struggle to get the dinghy aboard. I switched to the H30 and it is SO much easier.

As for your access, seems odd to me to have a sealed area like that, but an inspection plate should work fine - as long as you now regularly inspect that area for water intrusion as the deck plate will likely leak at some point.

Plan sounds fine for over drilling to remove core, make sure you also put in a backing plate, Hurley sells them as an accessory.

You could also use a stainless steel toggle bolt that is made and marketed for this specific purpose, assuming it will fit the Hurley bolt things. Some other davit systems can use them.

The stringers and hull actually extend into the swim platform area (got a drawing from SR) and this sealed area has a bilge pump too as the stern goes underwater upon coming off plane. I really didn't want to deal with toggle bolts and drilling a larger hole.
Not sure about the platform height but its below the floating dock so thinking about 16".

Completed the install....and placed the dinghy on by hand as moving the boat was too much of a challenge. Looks great. Talked to someone else at marina about tie down techniques and he ties bow and stern to cleats and two bbungee cords from the dinghy side lines to the stern hold down. Sound about right? He has a 440DA so he can see his where mine is not visible while underway.

Why not just do what the experts at Hurley Davits say to do?

I followed this and am very pleased with the results. Ordered my SS ratchet straps from USCargo.com, used the Hurley strap capacities as my guide, found a strap then cut off the hooks and replaced with SS carabiners.

Thanks MM....hoping not to add three tie down points on my deck and use the existing cleats and rails. USCargo is a great suggestion for straps

I felt the same way but talking to experienced boaters hauling dinghy's using cleats and rails just does not work well in rough waters. Only one goes in the deck of the platform, the others ore on the sides. Do not really even notice them now.
