Sea Trial question WOT question

I wouldn't expect a surveyor to have the mechanical knowledge or tools needed to correctly diagnose an mpi engine.

Agree, but he would identify there is a problem, so now you have a third party (presumably a reliable professional) saying there is is a problem with that engine. Seller is much more likely to deal with it now vs the information coming from the buyer.

I have a 1999 340 w 7.4 Horizons. From idle to WOT, the Port RPM increases slower then the Starboard RPM. I will get 4100 RPM Port and 4400 RPM Starboard. I think I’ll look into my Port engine for any issues.

Not sure a surveyor would diagnose. He'd just report. What he (actually the owner) needs is a mechanic to get in and diagnose. I'd start with compression, but that's me.
The right surveyor will absolutely diagnose. I had a guy that did the surveys on both of the gas boats I bought. Went another direction on the diesel boat though.

^ that is such simple, sound advice, but for some reason we (me included) tend to get emotional on purchases of things we really want (cars, boats etc) and just make the whole process way too complicated.
So true Bill. If I listened to my own advice I wouldn't be $23,000 into a boat the book says is worth $4500.

Around our parts they generally don't do mechanical work.
