We've been adopted...

He's definitely my dog.

Chillin' on the couch watching the news.

If he were my dog he’d be stretched out on the recliner with a remote in one hand and Motor Trend TV playing while he was snoring away.

JVM, he has at least part of that down pat. He's usually stretched out on the couch and snoring away. I won't let him have the remote because I'm getting tired of Animal Planet. He's pretty touchy when I want to watch the news and try to change it away from Animal Planet.

I'm still working with him on his social skills.

We just celebrated Sailor's one year birthday with us. I've owned dogs my entire life and I've never owned one that is as intuitive as this one.

He has learned more commands than I could list here and he's become my therapy dog as I go through my chemo treatments. Sailor seems to know when I'm having a down day. He's always within about 10 feet of me but when I'm having a bad day he's right next to me, as close as my shadow would be.

Just to give you an example of how smart and caring he is, he always wakes me in the morning when it's time for me to take him for his walk. This morning he jumped up on the bed at 6:10 a.m. and lay down right next to me. I had a horrible night last night trying to get to sleep and finally fell asleep somewhere around 3:00.

When he jumped on the bed I reached over and scratched his ears for a few seconds then said "Sailor, it's too early to get up now. Let's go back to sleep."

He put his head down on the bed, about a foot from my head and that was the last I heard from him until about 7:35. When I awoke and opened my eyes he was still there in the same position. He'd raised his head and was looking at me. When he saw that I was awake he started talking to me, letting me know it was time for his walk.

It was difficult to drag my sorry butt out of bed but I figured if he could "hold it" for an hour and a half I could get up and take him for his walk. Our walk is about 1/2 mile long and he sniffs and waters just about every bush and tree along the way. It takes us about 30 minutes to complete his walk and both of us are ready to head home at the end.

When we got home this morning I went back to bed and Sailor lay on the rug at the foot of the bed. I slept for almost 2 hours and he didn't make a move during that time, but again was talking to me when he realized I was awake.

What a guy!

That's awesome.

We finally found ours last month. Took a little to get adjusted, but great dog. Some type of lab mix from Missouri. Aims to please and as a bonus, doesn't shed.

I admire the fact that Sailor is a member of the Mackinac Island Yacht Club.... the waiting list for membership was over 20 years last I checked!!

Glad he’s doing his job of being man’s best friend when you need him the most....

Jeff, it would take someone from northern MI to recognize the hat. I picked it up a few years ago when we were vacationing in MI at my brother's cottage on Point Lookout. I can understand the 20 year wait for membership. As I understood it, at that time dues were $75/year and for that you got recip moorage at just about every club on the Great Lakes and beyond. Such a deal.

It is absolutely incredible to have been adopted by a furry creature. Not may of know and or understand that feeling of love an adoration. We are incredibly lucky. But, for those of us who are, it's a bond made in heaven.

This dog is the most intuitive and loving dog I've ever owned, and over my 70+ years that is a LOT of dogs.

He's usually very close by me as I move about the house but following my chemo treatments he was within about 2' of me all the time. When I was flat on my back in bed it was lying next to me. It seemed as if he knew I was sick and he knew his job was to be there as my therapy dog.
