500/520 DB official thread

Do you have any info on the bulletin on the bracket? Our mechanic was not aware.
It's Cummins Campaign # C1029
It is a safety critical bulletin. Your mechanic, if Cummins certified, should be well aware of it..
Most likely it was completed on your boat but leave no stone unturned.

As an edit - should the bracket fail the cooler will come out of the engine heat exchanger port and all of the water that should be discharged into the exhaust will now fill the bilge. Loss of vessel is a threat.

Thank you! for the info. He will be back on the boat Monday to service the Agtercoolers I will give him that number.

Thanks again

Can you expand on what needs to be checked or replaced? We have a terrific mechanic but he is not authorized Cummins service

If your cooler bracket looks like this then it must be replaced.

If it looks like this then the update has been done:

Ours has the updated brackets...

Thank you

View attachment 64496 I am looking for a replacement water filter for my fresh water system. It is a screw on filter housing behind the shelving in the bilge area under the galley. There are no markings on the housing or the filter itself. The last parts manual you can get is from 2007 and the part number for the filter is #439950. When I google that part number nothing comes up online.
It is a carbon filter about 9.5” long and 3” Dia. Anyone have any idea the company that makes it and where I can get one?
Next step is going to the dealer but I am sure I will pay double for the same filter going that route.

I went to West Marine; way to many bucks for a simple water filter. Had the SeaRay umber and looked on Granger web sight. Got a pack of two of $38

I ended up finding then on amazon with help from someone on here. This is what I bought:

4-Pack Compatible for WaterPur CCI-10-CLW Activated Carbon Block Filter - Universal 10 inch Filter for WaterPur Clear Water Filter Housing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D8X9X2Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_fF9zDbJGY4PPZ

I mean as cool as it is having a big boat and all; it's just a mobile home on the water. I get a lot of the same hard wear At my local RV shop. I like saving a $ or two when I can.

But all that said and done; having a big ass boat is pretty cool

That’s what I keep telling my wife while I’m trying to convince her how great of an idea it is to get. Class A diesel pusher to roll around with in the off season..............

Linda and I had a 400DA three years back. Had a great time with her. She thought it was a big boat. Took this vessel on a shake down from Ft Walton Beach to Orange Beach, Al., then on to Biloxi, Ms. In Alabama we slipped next to a 400DA. Man, the difference. This is a big ass boat. Sure you give up a little shallow water stuff but size difference is something else. Only downer is finding a sutable slip in my neck of the woods. Kind of at a premium after hurican Mike destroyed 4 marinas just 60 miles from here. Most marinas are not set up for a 15.5 beam. That's the challenging part of not just owning the boat but living with it.

It's a surprisingly easy handling vessel; very responsive. More so than the 400DA. I stayed on plain at 17 knots at 1650 rpm. The 400DA struggled stayin on plain at anything below 18/19 knots and that was with 30% bigger tabs than OEM Bennett trim tabs. The 510DA's ride is defiantly smooth. Had plenty of room for social hour when we were tied up.

My 510DA is 2001; one of the first to hit the dealers back in the day. Obvious system improvements took place but the basic vessel is the same. I have straight turbo 3196 Catapiller motors. There is a more powerful version out there but 660 HP a side on my vessel pushes her quite nicely.

Not sure what you are looking at but all the so called experts say this was one of SeaRay's best efforts. Have to say I'm pretty much in agreement.

Water in the engine compartment, up on the shelf under the swim platform. Maybe coming in from hydraulic platform mounts? Anyone else’s had this issue?

Talked to a guy in New York when I was looking at the 500/510 models. Said he had issues with several searay boats and their Swimplatform mountings and this was a Marine Max dealer. I had mine double checked before the purchase.

How much time has it taken for the water level to get that high and what are your pumps doing. My previous boat, a 400DA had both prop seals go bad. Went to the boat to secur it before an over seas trip and had water past the engine bays. All three pumps had failed. Just about sunk it in the slip. Sounds like there are several things going on.

Just me; but if it were mine I’ld be getting the boat out of the water

There are only three reasonable possibilities for water to be that high up: Shoebox joint, swim ladder, or dinghy davit rails.
The shoebox joint is the most likely as it submerges or has a lot of water pressure on it when coming on and off of plane.
The swim ladder bolts are candidates as they bolt up from underneath and go all the way through the hull.
The dinghy davit rail bolts are maybe but one would see it wet above.

Poor description on my part.

We are talking about a small amount, maybe a couple of cups of water at most on each side of the boat. It is pooling right on top of the mounting bolts for the hydraulic swim platform. I will post a picture in a day or so. I am vacuuming it up but need to confirm where it is coming from.

I believe Skip had a similar issue with his 52 Sedan Bridge.

I changed the fluid and filter in both transmissions last fall when I bought the boat. I will have about 120hrs on them this season. Fluid still looks clean. Do most of you change the tranny fluid and filter every season? This is my first diesel inboard transmission so not sure what the right service interval is on it.

The ZF manual recommends changing the fluid every 500 hours. I changed mine last season at about 550 hours, and it was very clean.

Can anyone talk me how to gain access to behind the entertainment center in the salon?

Thanks

Do you mean behind the components? You start by removing the doors, and the metal clips on the top of the inside of the cabinet (that hold the doors in place). Then remove the screws from the face of the cabinet. At this point, you can slide the cabinet out. I strongly suggest covering the corian with a towel. Slide it out slowly, as some of the cables are shorter than others.
