30ft+/ Oversized load Trailering. Lets see your tow rigs.

So, we have similar pickups. Cool! Great to compare.

I was quoted $700 for the Firestone Air Bags installed without the on-board compressor – an additional $300 for the on-board compressor. Or I could simply buy a much less expensive portable air compressor and plug it into either a cigarette lighter plug or “alligator clip” to the battery. This air bag systems is supposed to add about 1,000 lbs. capacity to the hitch carrying capability.

Also, they suggested that I upgrade my brakes. About $300.

What I haven’t investigated yet is my tires:

Via Sea Ray 310 DA Owner’s Manual = Boat dry = 13,350 lbs.
Full tank of gas = 200 gal = (A gallon of gasoline weighs roughly 6.3 pounds) = 1,260 lbs.
Full tank of Water = 35 gal (A gallon of water weighs roughly 8.43 pounds) = 291.9 lbs.
Crap we carry on the boat = 300 lbs.
Total of approximately = 15,201.9

Trailer = something like 1,500 to 2,500 lbs.

I don't remember what my air bags cost, but installed them myself, and I just put new laod range E tires on the truck a couple of weeks ago.
I haven't installed an air compressor yet, I just air them up before I leave, and I have a 12 volt one as well.
I should look into the brake upgrade because I had to make a quick stop last week on my way to Lake Powell with my camper and 18' bowrider.
It doesn't want to stop very quickly.

Yes I do.
I know this isn't the 30'+ load, but this is my camper and small boat setup.

Yeah, we rented a 59' houseboat on Lake Powell a couple of weeks ago, and this was our pull behind/fishing boat.

I'm not a wide load right now. But, if the 2ft bug catches us and we move from our 240 to say a 300, I wouldn't know how to handle the over-width permits to run across state lines. Do you guys hire a broker to handle the permits or do you contact each state personally? I would be coming from Indiana. At this point it looks like we would travel to Missouri and Tennessee from here. I tried looking at respective states and their websites look set up for trucking companies. Not for a recreational boater.

I towed an 01 290 SD with a 10’2” beam from Austin TX to northern MI 5 years ago and I used Mercury services for my permits. They were ok but I did have contact a couple states and then pass info to back to Mercury. There were some laws that Mercury just wasn’t up to speed on.
Yes each state has it’s own site and software and that makes securing multiple state permits very cumbersome.

While my beam was 10’2” I did say my beam was 10’ to avoid significant restrictions associated with a beam greater than 10’.

I'm really close to buying a traer for my 310, which is 14,000 lbs dry.
I have a 2000 F350 7.3 4x4.
I plan on hinging my arch, that will be next winters project.
I'm looking for a truck/trailer for my 330. The ford website lists the 7.3 F350 at 10,000 lbs trailer weight.
Seems low to me for that setup, and your boat is heavier than mine, so how does it perform?

Don't know as I don't have my trailer yet. I told them I'm in no hurry, but I had an idea last weekend and I'm going to go pick it up in late September.
I'm going to combine that with a trip to a friend of my wifes that has a tanning business in Wyoming called Merlin's Hideout.
They made KurtRussell'sl buffalo coat in the movie The Hateful Eight.

I tow with an 04 F350 dually 4wd 6.0 diesel. Literally it towed on the freeway 65mph on cruise control. It does have the heavy duty suspension and tow package that gives it the 4.10 gears.

It's $10,582.00, that doesn't include tax, license, or shipping.
I told them no hurry, so they're waiting until they have at least one more coming my way to help with the shipping cost.
JUST AN FYI fOR EVERYONE LOOKING FOR A TRAILER. i JUST PAID $9,042 INCLUDING TAX FOR A 18,000 TRI AXLE FOR MY 310 FROM NEXTRAIL IN OCALA FL.

310 t.jpg 310 tr.jpg 310 trr.jpg Picked up my new to me 2000 310 in Cincinnati friday and made it back to Orlando fl by Saturday night. New trailer pulled and handled great. After taking down the radar it measured 13'6". the owners manual says the 310 weighs 12k, not even close. It came in with 1/2 tank of fuel at 14,556 lbs. Truck, trailer and boat came in at 25,670. If it would have been full of fuel it would have been in a CDL class load.

Pat, everybody here would be yelling at you for the time to launch and recover. Have a glitch and they run you over. We had a shift cable issue that took us more than a minute and a guide ran his outboard into the front of our smaller fishing boat. Put a hole in the hull at the bow. Filed a claim with the sheriff's office and they knew the guy from doing the same thing on other occasions. But still if you take more than a few minutes, they let you know. Like that system with the electric wench though.

You're not the first to point that out, and likely not the last...

In my defense I will only say, without all the explanations and filming by by daughter and son-in-law it takes half that time in the ramp. This is a nice quiet ramp midday on a Friday I would never have tried filming the launch on a Saturday. I wont even launch on a Saturday morning.

Now I still take my own damn time in the prep lane, there is plenty of room for people to go around. This ain't no bass boat. 21,500 lbs of boat, trailer and truck. I am not going to rush because lose control of that much mass and good luck stopping it. People can get hurt and equipment destroyed. Any "hold my beer" ramp idiots can complain all they want.

We down here are a bit more laid back, polite and operate on "Southern Time" (it will happen when it happens.) When just my wife and I usually get several offers to help with the lines. So I guess just lucky.

I'll grant you the South Florida ramps around Palm Beach County/Lake Worth Inlet are crazy on a weekend any more. We typically take two days to drive down, luanch on a Monday, spend the week (or two) in the water, pull on a Friday and two days to drive back to Carolina.
