I currently have a 2004 220SD and am considering buying a 2003 270SD because my growing family needs some extra room. I am going to look at the 270 tonight, but in doing some research I'm a bit confused. The Sea Ray spec sheet for the two boats say:
2004 220: Overall length with integrated swim platform 23' 6"
https://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/company8483/34822_f.pdf

2003 270: Overall length 26'6"
https://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/company5402/27736_f.pdf

The 2003 doesn't mention the swim platform so is this an apples to apples comparison with only a 3 ft difference between the two? Or is the 2003 not counting the swim platform?

2003 must have been a mid-year model change for the 270 SD since there is no owners manual on Searay.com? I found the manual for a 2004 270SD. It looks like 26'6" includes the platform.

The model # vs actual size of the Sea Ray is a longstanding (and enjoyable) discussion around here. Today's 440 could have been yesterday's 390, 240's become 280's, so on and so forth. It's almost comical...

Interesting. Thanks. So it looks like maybe the swim deck is a bit shorter on the 270 (some of the difference). Still surprised that a boat which should be 5 feet longer by naming convention is really only 3 feet longer...

Yes, the 270SD was 26'6 including the built in swim platform. After comparing boats like you're doing I purchased a new 2004 270SD. The 270SD is a much larger boat than the 220SD. 20% heavier, a foot taller waterline to top of windshield, bigger head, tons of storage room, portlights in the head and berth under the helm.

Yeah, I'm very interested to check it out still. I'm just surprised by the actual numbers. I would have expected a more substantial difference in the numbers. Thanks for the input.

The 270 has a smaller integrated swim platform than the Bolted on platform of the 220.

If you subtract the swim platform length from the 220, then compare the usable space inside The boat, you’ll see the 270 really is much bigger.

The bow cushions are much longer, and the helm area is longer, the rear seating area port side lounge cushion is longer, basically every area is a little bigger than the 220.

I have a 270. It is gigantic inside compared to a 220, slightly bigger than a 240.
The 240 has a larger swim platform and smaller interior, barely, than a 270. The 270 is bigger inside with a smaller swim platform, which makes it look like a similar size boat, but the interior difference is noticeable. Mine weighs 8100 lbs on an aluminum trailer.
