I just purchased an 85 Sundancer 340 with twin magnum 350 engines. One of which needs to be pulled a rebuilt. Instead in rebuilding it, I was considering upgrading to a more modern platform. Something in the Chevy LS or mercrusier. Can someone point me in the direction of build threads on this type of topic. I haven’t seen much from googling.

A 6.2-liter V-8 engine with unparalleled torque and acceleration to get you on plane quickly and smoothly.

  • HP / kW 350 / 261
  • Maximum RPM (WOT) 5000 - 5400
  • Engine type V8, 2-valve/cylinder pushrod
  • Displacement (L) 6.2
  • Fuel delivery system Computer controlled Multi-Port Electronic Fuel Injection (MPI)

I think the new Volvo 6.0 with variable valve timing would be a better buy. Here's an article...

I'd consider it as a replacement for my 8.1's (not that I'm hoping that would ever happen) since they look like they'd provide as much usable torque and 20% reduction in fuel (along with lower weight). Wow.

Do your current engines have carbs? If they do.....I would financially question repowering/rewiring a 34 year old boat with fuel injected engines. There are a lot of other choices that make more financial sense.

I agree with playdate, however if you love the boat, its in good shape and you want for nothing but reliable, efficient new motors then who's to say... I've seen many do re powers with up to date motors, electronics etc.

I don't know. If you have good, popular hull, everything is sound, then new power could make a nice boat. You won't profit off it, but can give you years a use and will be sellable later.
