Port engine quit while cruising at 3500 rpm won’t start , mecahnic checked checked fuel pressure good, (starboard fuel pump went out last month)says it’s has a crankshaft ignition sensor not in distributor .thats a as for as he can go without computer , local mercruiser shop booked up 3 weeks out. Any suggestions appreciated
 
I suppose you can start with the crank sensor. Swap out with other to test.
 
try replacing the rotor and/or cap. The Flat caps are prone to carbon tracking
 
I just experienced the same thing with our 270 (twin 4.3 carbed). We were cruisng at 31 knots when thr port engine shut down and wouldn't restart. I It turned out to be the ICM. I swapped the one from my SB to my port and she started right up. Tried the port one on the SB and same issue, wouldn't started. Had to order a new ICM. Yours are MPI and have ECMs but you could still easily swap them and check. Just a thought
 
Great thanks I will do some swapping and see what happens. I have an appointment in 3 weeks for mercruiser mechanic so hopefully get it going before then
 
Had a similar issue. Changed out a bunch of stuff and my coils on both my 5.0 efi. Cruising in 1 day my port just quit and would not restart. After looking around a bit i found that 1 of the 2 lines that conect to the coil came loose and had a bad connection. Upon inspection they look fine but if i pulled on them 1 pulled right off. Just a thought to check. Good luck
