complete generator failure, less than 1000 hrs

We don't really know all the facts. We don't know how "obvious" the potential failure was to the service people. Manifolds/Risers fail from within. So unless you have x-ray vision you're not going to know. However, at 4 years in salt you do know you're on borrowed time and probably need to take a look and/or replace. Service people should have made that recommendation, IMHO.

Not true for generators and diesel equipment in general; should easily get 10 to 15 years if correctly maintained. You are probably in reference to the Mercruiser manifolds.....

Ok. Then there really isn't a reason they should have failed.

ttmott, that depends on the level of service you are getting. I drive a Ford pickup, and I expect basic service. My wife drives a Maserati, and I expect a whole lot more when I take her car in. Her last car dealer would take women to a spa while cars were getting serviced.

well , the maserati mechanic kneels down while sh....ting the same way the ford mechanic does . the show for your wife might be better at maserati , the technical service for her car is the same .

I've had 2 separate techs out at my boat working on a solution from Sunpower Diesel (one of the biggest shops in SoFL and certified Cummins mechanics). The boat has to be hauled out, one pod removed, part of the engine, etc. Both techs told me flat out that this was not a new problem and both told me there is no way this would have been missed if the service tech would have started the engine after the oil change as is supposed to happen. Both techs told me there is an extreme amount of rust which clearly indicated this was no way a new issue and much more than 3 months old, especially considering I've only used the boat once (one week) since the service.
Legally, the dealership probably has no liability. But if they don't step up, they will lose me as a customer. And I was just in there last month looking for my next boat, the Azimut S6.
Hopefully, I can report to you that the dealership stepped up as they should under the circumstances. I haven't disclosed who the dealer is yet, and I hope I get to report praise for this company, because so far, they have treated me outstanding. But someone definitely dropped the ball, but if they step up and take some responsibility for this one, they will continue to have my business since they will prove they are as good as they told me.

It's a terrible sickening situation your in... I hope it all works out with the dealer for you Richie

I've been waiting now for 2 days for someone to contact me from the dealership. I've left 2 messages for the GM, crickets.

I'd be thinking of a letter from an attorney.

I think they kidnapped him.

If I was in negotiation not sure that I would be posting details on the internet. I am sure we will get an update after its all over.

That's more likely what's happening than being kidnapped by them.

Thanks for the concern over possible kidnapping, and glad to report that I'm safe.
I didn't want to name them earlier, but the dealership is Marinemax Miami. I'm also glad to say that in the end, I was able to have a very candid discussion with the GM and he is a reasonable guy who wants to keep his customers happy and returning. I understand his limited ability to rectify every situation, but he came to the plate and played ball with me and did not lose my future business. The boat buying experience at MM Miami is second to none, and service will always be hit or miss, I guess anywhere you go. But in the end, I don't want to say anything bad about it, it was a difficult situation for all, and taught me that I always need to check behind every service, regardless of who does it. But again, in the end, MM stepped up and kept me as a customer.
In a perfect world, boats wouldn't break, and salt wouldn't be corrosive.

Yeah it's nice when people step up and at least try to make it right. There are too many who don't. Good luck with the fixes.

MM is even sending a captain to transport my boat so i don't have to fly down to get boat into the yard. Very ready to get the boat back working so I can enjoy the rest of the hot season.
