I have a slip reserved for sat night. has anybody been there yet and can they attest to the "wave attenuator" ? ive experience most of the marinas around nyc and they all get dicey except for liberty landing. this one is supposed to have some brand new state of the art system… my fingers are crossed. was planning to hit the transit museum and explore the new Brooklyn waterfront. I haven't been there since the blue working warehouses and freight facilities lined the water.

I was there in July. Ran the gyro for 2 days.

That said, the wave attenuation does work, but it only knocks down the waves. The water still ungulates inside the marina. It’s all from boat traffic which dies down overnight, so sleeping is pleasant.

We opted not to spend much extra time aboard during the day, but with the worlds greatest city at your doorstep, why sit on the boat?

This marina is in a city park, which means it has the most onerous application process of any marina I’ve ever been to. The contract is longer than my seasonal contracts at my home marinas. They know it’s bad, but it’s required by the city. Dock staff is very friendly.

Go for it and enjoy!

yeah that's kind of what I thought. all my experiences with "attenuators" have been similar... they knock down the chop , but you still get the wake swell.. which unfortunately is what beats up your lines and fenders. but maybe it will be better on the weekend without the commuter traffic. that being said , looking forward to exploring the new park. ive been to carol gardens a few times and the park by the williamsburg , but never this area. will give some visuals when I return , weather looks to be great

LOL about the application... I was getting flashbacks from closing on my house !

I was considering an overnight or two there but I spoke to a friend who goes in and out of there quite a bit and he told me to stick with Liberty Landing because you get bounced around in Brooklyn.

ok all , got back today after a gorgeous weekend of southern cal weather here in nyc. stayed at one 15 sat night and it was about as expected. the breakwaters did an excellent job of eliminating the heavy river chop , but the low long period undulating swell made it in and caused bouncing around as the boats all tried to "surf". I had to really work on tweaking the spring lines to counter as much as possible. it was a 4 fender tie up and the docks were brand new and very nice , staff was super helpful . the location and view is what made it worth putting up with some motion , however overnight the motion all but stopped except for the occasional passing heavy commercial. walked up to Brooklyn bridge long the water and you cant beat it for restaurants and bars... was a very nice buzz about the whole waterfront. all in , was $150 for my 330da. ive been to liberty as well , and loved it there , but this is a totally different vibe and energy. you could berth an aircraft carrier with the space they have between fingers. woke up this morning and saw an old MARAD stick ship being deadship towed right by us... was highly unusual but this area of the harbor never gets dull.

sorry for the orientation of the last pic. was trying to show the southern cement attenuators. the heavy duty ones were fronting the main channel. the wake swells seem to be coming in also from under the southern pier. these places really need a steel breakwater down to the mud , but I think they had issues with subway tunnels underneath.

Very cool pics, thanks for sharing. The marina didn't look very busy, how did you make your reservation (on-line or call)?

online form , they follow up well with emails. yes I noticed as well the empty slips. the folks that were there were coming in and out actively, so people were using their boats which is a good sign. if the vacancies are due to the rolliness, they will have to figure out some better solution or else there isn't too much of a future sorry to say.
the sailing school and outrigger canoe clubs were pretty active

NY Waterway Ferry is probably the most efficient. Uber would work too, but the most satisfying way is to walk or bike across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Uber is usually best from an outer borough in to Manhattan because yellow cabs can be scarce, but once you get in there the yellow cabs are plentiful and more reasonable than Uber because their fares are fixed. Uber beats you up with congestion pricing.

Great information.....so what is the best way into Manhattan from this marina?
there is a water taxi stop right at the base of the Brooklyn bridge , also one about 1000 ft south of the marina at the next pier
