Spx 190 or 210 - still deciding

Hi all,

I’m really in a big fuss about whether to get the 190 or 210.

It’s our first boat and will have it for a while.

It’s my fiancé and our son and a future child.

Also, we may have 3 additional people on there occasionally who’s my brother and my parents or her parents.

We have a budget for the 190 and can get the 210 if it comes down to it.

But, realistically is the 210 worth the extra money. Will we be unhappy with the size of it after couple years. It’s our first boat.

Please, looking for some advice and insight as to what you guys think. I know everyone is going to say can’t go wrong with going bigger, but with keeping a budget in mind, is the “bigger” justified in the cost difference and necessary.

We’re from NY

Thanks,
Nick

Rule number 1! Always buy your second boat first.

Where do you plan to use the boat? I had a slip on the biggest lake in Indiana, Lake Monroe. In reality it is not that big. The point I’m trying to make is that on weekends and holidays our 19 footer was not big enough. Got tossed around.

Six adults on a 19 foot boat gets small fast.

You'll appreciate having the bigger boat with a growing family. I've read it on this site many times...buy your second boat first. It ends up saving you $$. Good luck with the purchase. I bought my first boat when my youngest was 4 months old. He's now 30 and married. They both go boating with mom and dad along with his older sister and her husband every chance they get.

I used to have a Sea Ray 182 bowrider. Great boat but was a little too small. I bought the 21spx and am glad I did. It's big enough to run it out in the ocean on decent days while still small enough to slip in to crowded restaurants and bars. While it is only 21ft., it has a rated capacity of 12 people so it's great for a growing family.

Get the 210 if you can - 19' is small. My 185 works for me because I am often alone or with just one other person. 5 people on my boat for a day is just too small. In a year you won't even remember the price difference. But if you get the 190 you will think about the 210 everytime you go out.

^^^ This is great! ^^^

Where abouts in NY?

We had a newborn on a 185 and it was way too small a boat for the great south bay. Wife got pregnant with #2 and it was a must have, needing both a head and cabin.......queue the 280 sundancer. Have the 2nd kid and all the gear we need to bring.....crap, we need the 40 sedan bridge haha.

The point of my rambling is that what you think now will change over time. You are already talking about a growing family and plans to entertain. Either boat will feel small over the long haul. Put a cooler, chairs, everybody's beach bag, kid toys....you get the idea.

Like you, the wife and I went back and forth on which one. We looked at both quite a while and decided on the 210 due to extra space. When we have the Grands and a another friend on board and their parents, it can get crowded quick.
