Been a few months since my last newbie question.
All Boat systems have been running ok since may 15th splash day..have put on 30hrs running at diff throttle positions.
Untill a week or so ago..after a couple hrs
Towing a tube with my son and grandsons around ..1200 to 3500 rpm..all good..oil pres.
Engine temp..etc.
Once back at our dock, I was checking engine compartment..there is a couple inches of water...not unexpected after 3hrs of 4 boys 12 and under in and out of lake sloping wet.
But the oil floating on top of the bilge water is definatly an issue..
My Gear lube level has been stable ( merc gear oil is blue color) engine oil level is a wee bit on high side...maybe 1/4 inch over full on stick prestart when cold...still at same level when hot..but it has been stable( oil in engine is a light brown in color..clean..no milkiness) I have not added any oil to motor this season. The oil floating in bilge is also light brown in color.
Ive run a camera under engine to see if it picks up any drips..but notta..nothing..but if I clean and dry thr bilge with shop vac, degrease and wipe up all oil then run engine for 1 - 2hrs...there are now always a few drops oil under engine ...mostly on port side of engine.
The question is what could be leaking?
Local marina owner thinks possible rear engine seal..But wouldnt that put the oil leak in center rear area under engine?
It is not causing any mechanical issues...so far...but it is bugging the heck out of me and I need to figure out the source.
Also what is the stated wot rpm for my boat engine combo? Max rpm I can get is 4200
28kts
3200 rpm is 20kts

The hoses to and from the oil filter are common areas for leaks to develop. Give them a good look.

Yep, had to replace my remote hoses. Had a great tip from @Lazy Daze to wrap the questionable areas with clean white paper towel and run it. You’ll find hour leak quickly.

Could be your rear main seal or timing cover like your mechanic said but that’s unlikely. My vote is hoses

Is this a shean on the water or do you see globs of oil floating? What is the color?

Thanks for all the responses
I will be tightening all hose clamps and trying the paper towel wrap idea.
The globs - drips are 2mm up to 25mm in dia. Light brown in color same as engine oil
I am trying to attach a photo to show what is there.

Check the oil pres. sending unit just above the oil filter adaptor. Mine is leaking and needs to be changed.

Get yourself a borescope. Little camera with a 3ft flex line to see under everything. Can grab anywhere cheap enough. Just had a oil leak on my 88 240 sorrento with 5.7 alpha drive. Thought it was oil plug but ended being a pin hole in a rust spot in lower back corner of oil pan. I would still be feeling around without it and made my fix very easy. Borescope and heat lazer gun should be on every boat

To help locate the leak there is a dye that illuminates with uv light that can be added to various lubricant. Add dye to one oil type at a time and run engine checking for leaks.

Follow up to oil in bilge, PO had used a short piece of plastic electric cable guard as the hose from PVC 90 fitting on valve cover to air intake. Poor connection allowed engine oil being vented out onto valve cover and then running forward down behind powersteering pump bracket into bilge... replaced hose with clamped 1/2 inch rubber line and clipped to air intake/ spark arrestor..result..oil leak gone.
