has anyone had the “golden” shifter knob turn ugly? Can they be rejuvenated or if not where to buy?
Thanks,
Captain Manfred

I have not, as it looks like a layer came off. Have you had that experience with your shifters?

I believe they were originally clear coated. I soaked mine in lacquer thinner, pulled off all the clear. Then it was easy to polish using a aluminum wheel polish or something similar. Depending on the environment,
they may may need periodical polishing.

Thank you Mike, it looks like the clear coat is what came off. I will try the lacquer thinner as you suggested and polish the knobs. I assume you did not put a new clear coat?

I did not redcoat as I suspect the original coating was a type of hard coat. Applying lacquer or other type of clear coating I fear would be short lived. I have found that a quick polish woks just fine.

Someday I'm going to find a way to replace my log style shif handles with balls.

You guys and your beautiful balls....
Yup, never want to be accused of having dull balls. It helps as well to have other's shine them. My wife does it on occasion...…...she is much better at it than me!

thank you so much Mike, I will go that route!

So how often do you polish your balls?

I've had my helmet buffed many times over the years, but never thought about having my balls polished.
You guys are funny as hell. I am at work, in a meeting and I see these email alerts. Now I have to describe why I am laughing.

Nothing like a good old helmet polishing and ball buffing to make you smile. Who cares how boat runs at that moment......
