Looking to repower my 400 Express. Curious if the new Mercruiser 8.2 Horizon and ZF tranny have the mounting points in the same location as my '95 Mercruiser 7.4 and Hurth tranny?

Maybe Mercruiser can answer your question. Of course you'll need to consider the shaft coupler, wiring and change in props as well. Would you be required to have the new catalytic converter with this upgrade. It could get really complicated. Maybe at set of remanufactured 8.1s would be simpler.

Thank you, I was just hoping to drop some new power in complete with trannys and all. I'll keep researching.

I just got done with a repower of my 1994 400EC. I went with long block 7.4s. (See the 400EC thread in here under Sport Yachts for some pictures)
I was told the 7.4s and 8.1s are essentially the same block so the tranny will mate with either, but since the 8.1s are not made anymore (neither are the 7.4s), there was no real benefit in going with the 8.1s so I stuck with the 7.4s. I believe the 8.2s are a different block, so mounting locations and some other measurements will most likely be different. You may also end up needing to change the shaft length as well as the 8.2/ZF configuration is likely a different overall length than the 7.4/Hurth.
