We opened up the cabin and was shocked to find a dead mouse in the toilet. Would a mouse walk 300 to 500 feet down the docks and climb on a rope and shimmy his way onto the boat then make his way into the cabin then climb up the slick walls in the head and fall in the toilet. Or could he have ridden in on some ones luggage. Anyone else had this happen?

Had a family of field mice move into a rolled up Zodiac in our garage one winter. They burrowed through the fabric and totally destroyed the boat. Then there was the one that took up residence on top of the engine of one of the Audi’s and ate the turbo heat shield.

So yah the little guy probably got there on his/her own.

I had a bird once. Ended up dead tucked into a cubby. Took a while to find it.

My money is that he was brought on board. They look for water and that probably was how he ended up in a place he could not climb out of.

You know what they say.... if you find one there’s 20 more.

It would be a long walk for Mickey to get to my boat. I'm at the end of 50 boat slip. Now if you can figure out a way to reliably keep the spiders off the boat I would invest.

Buy a large container pump sprayer of ant rid (its the same pyrethrum as spider spray, but cheaper) and spray your lines and around the boat where spiders web. It will reduce the numbers drastically.

Try Suspend SC by Bayer. Read about it on other forums. First season using it and I am impressed. Have not had any spiders, or anything else.

I sprayed the cleats on the dock and a little on the line with spider killer - it helped a lot. I was at the end of J dock at PYC.

Yeah, late one fall I saw a little mouse in my storage shed at our lake house - it was cold and getting dark so I let it go. Forgot about him and didn't go in the shed for a few months over the winter. When I finally did, OMG what a mess he had made - chewed open a bag grass seed, got in a pair of boots and chewed them up and left pellets everwhere. I saw him again and let a nice little peanut butter snack in an old fashion mousetrap. Lesson learned, have no mercy on those little guys, they will chew any and everything, it's just what they do.

It might’ve been a message from another Dockmate!?
(Joking)

My dock neighbor has had not one, but 2 minks get in his boat, crawl into a crack and die stinking the whole place up in the past 2 seasons.

I was twisted into the ER on my previous boat once when a good sized snake slithered right over my foot.

I was pretty scraped and burned up by the time I scrambled outta there.

How often do you need to spray this?

MM

We’ve sprayed it once this season (beginning of the season) and have not had to reapply yet. I would guess twice would suffice. I’be been giving out spray bottles to our dock neighbors because it works, and we have alot of it. Been using it at the house too - deck and gazebo- and thats been bug free as well. Moderate initial cost, but the benefits have more than paid for it. I’ve used the traditional Ortho home defense for years, which is also great - but this seems a notch or two above.

I’ve yet to have one in our boat but I know several people who have had big rodent problems on their boat. The common denominator has been their proximity to derelict boats with homeless squatters on them. They leave food out and that attracts the mice. It’s an unfortunate byproduct of wonderful Californacation, most of our marinas are plagued with dead boats that make convenient habitat for the homeless population. Marina operators are reluctant to deal with it so the paying tenants basically are screwed.

Had some dock neighbors see a full blown rat on the dock at night. I evidenced the thing by accidently leaving a loaf of bread in a plastic bag out on a table and he chewed into it and ate quite a bit. Went to HD and purchased a full blown rat trap and caught him the 2nd night it was set....no more rat....
