Wanted - CF Card with Raymarine E120 5.69 software upgrade that is known good.

I've tried 3 different CF cards with different formats to try and upgrade my E120 with no luck. Raymarine tech support has confirmed that I have done everything right, and says they can't tell me which compact flash cards are compatible for the upgrade, but the SanDisk cards that I've been using obviously aren't. They pointed me to a company that will charge me $50 to sell me a card with a free software upgrade on it.

So, does anyone have a known good Raymarine E120 5.69 software update compact flash card they would sell (for less than $50)?

Yes, I read all of it. Tried three different cards all of which were within spec. Formatted using two different comouters. I walked through my steps, format, everything with Raymarine. They confirmed i did everything correctly, but some cards just aren't compatible but they can't tell me which ones are.

Honestly at this point I'm not looking for troubleshooting help, just looking to buy a card that someone has already used and doesn't need anymore.

Yobub - - - I'll chip in half with you for the card. I've been doing all the same BS with purchasing CF cards and downloading their Raymarine software updates to no luck either. Maybe a couple more want in and we can get this cheap.

If I remember correctly I had to use a CF Card with very little memory maybe 128 or 512KB or it won't work.
It was hard to find but after I got it all was OK.

Yup, tried 64mb, 128mb, 512mb. Tried SanDisk and other brands. Formatted using 2 different computers. Formatted NTFS, FAT16, FAT32. Tried the cards in two different E120s. Raymarine confirmed that I had done everything right, but couldn't tell me which card or format to use. They said to go spend $55 (including shipping) to get the free software upgrade, so I was really just inquiring if someone already had this. @Bear Paws offered that I could borrow his, but my travel schedule won't let me meet up with him. @villain style and I are going to split it, then we'll make it available in a lending library to other CSR members.

To close the loop on this, I went ahead and purchased the upgrade.

It is just a standard SanDisk 64mb CF card, formatted FAT16. The software is the same 5.69 version, same revision date as what Raymarine has on their website for download.

I tried the upgrade on a spare E120 I had at home that was already 5.69, and it didn't launch the upgrade screen. When I ran it on my E120 in the boat which was 5.52, it booted right into the upgrade screen, and worked exactly as expected.

If you follow the instructions they will take you through a factory reset after the upgrade, which wipes all of your waypoints. I already had them backed up so no big deal. It also reset my autopilot control to disabled, which took me a bit to realize and then a bit to navigate to re-enable the autopilot control.

I've sent the CF card off to @Villian style for him to use, and when I get it back I'll make it available to anyone else who needs it.

Hey guys, I just bought a new to me boat with an E120 and trying to get it to recognize a Navionics 2GB CF card for the Great Lakes region. I’m assuming that I need to upgrade the software as mentioned above, and I bought a separate ScanDisk 128MB CF to load the software on and plug it into the E120. Can anyone provide any tips on how to do so, the Raymarine website is kind of wishy washy on what may or may not work.

You can try the 128mb card, but I have had difficulty in getting larger cards to work. You can try it really easily. Format the card as FAT16. Go to Raymarine's website, download the update, exract it to that card. Turn off the E120, insert the card, power up the E120. If the card works it should boot into an update screen.

The preconfigured card I bought, which is referenced in this post, is currently out on loan to @Brian Gineo. When I get it back from him I'm happy to send it to you.

The preconfigured card is the only card I could get to work when I had E120’s.

@Dkarolak I got the card back, so let me know if you need it.

Hi @youbub - not trying to jump the line, but I am trying to get my software updated and have been having the same issue. I would very much appreciate it if I could also borrow the card when Dkarolak is finished with it.

What part of Erie are you in? I have a Sandisk 128MB card that I've successfully used to update a friend's A-series and another friend's C-series. I guess that doesn't guarantee that it will work in an E, but you're welcome to borrow it if you're ever near Sandusky.

Its been a while, but I recall having to first update the software on my C80 with a smaller CF card than 128mb, which then allowed the plotter to read larger CF cards properly. I used the CF chart card (12mb) to use as my software update card (since I knew my C80 could read it).

I did buy the chart update card from Navionics that comes with a card reader and a 2gb CF chart card card. Then I used the new chart card since then. It came with free updates to the CF card for a year using the master card and the CF card reader USB stick.

I am probably overdue for a new update, but in our area, nothing has changed in thousands of years other than water levels, and our buoy locations are also very static year to year, so I am in no hurry. I use the iPAD version as well if I am navigating areas I don't know.

Oh, now that you say that, my card might be smaller than 128MB. The devices I was working on were both very out of date, so I bought that card specifically so they could read it. I'll have to check - might be a 32.
