Ugly Boats

I've long been a fan of Ocean Alexander yachts but their new 90R just leaves me with my jaw hanging over how ugly it is...

Not only does it have windows going in every direction, but the top deck is just butt ugly. Then, to top it off, they gave it a bow that is nearly vertical and has no flare. This boat would give a horribly wet ride in any sea that is breaking over the bow.

Sorry, OA, you lost it with this one. Better check the cannabis level of your design staff.

in other news... window squeegee and Rain-X stock went up %90. jeez with that kind of freeboard, I would hate to see the seas that would get over that bow! at first glance I get the likeness of the ellis island ferry boats

domer, here's a video I took a couple of years ago on the Columbia River. It's the 4th video in a series of 4 and it shows a wave with green water coming up over the top of my fly bridge. It knocked the lens off my anchor lite, and that's 20' above the water line. I happened to be standing at the helm and that wave knocked me off my feet. Keep in mind, this was on the Columbia River.

Don't tell me that waves don't get that big.

If you want to see all 4 videos, go to YouTube and type in Umatilla Days 1, then watch 2, 3, and 4.

Oh, my first boat (at least the first in my name) is definitely a contender here. 1992 Bayliner Rendezvous. 26' deck boat. An ugly boat can only be powered by an absolute bastard child of an engine. Force 150, 5-cylinder 2 stroke. What a pile of crap that motor was. Still, I think fondly of that boat. We had it docked at the southern part of Canandaigua Lake (NY Finger lakes). When my wife and I first met in 2012, we spent most weekends on that boat with friends and family. Heading up the lake at maybe 9mph, engine so loud nobody in the back of the boat could have a conversation, no working accessories other than nav lights, cinder block "anchor". Still, us and our ten closest people would get up there, anchor on the sand bar with the pretty boats, break out a BT speaker, and have a blast throwing frisbees and having a few pops.

Here it was:

Wow, it's even worse from the back. Those dual stairs take a huge chunk out of the bacmin

I saw a 51ish Galeon with the fold out balconies. The aft sides both tip out to expand the deck. One side has bar stools for extra seating. I can’t speak to the fit / finish, but that feature was really cool. My wife loved it.

I was on one at the Annapolis show in October. Yeah, that feature was pretty trick. Liked the layout a lot, but the details, materials, fit and finish was slightly lacking.

never doubted... just said would never want to see it :)
I took my trawler over the wachapreague va bar with breaking waves... never again. problem was I already waited 3 days to leave the inlet and I was getting itchy sitting in that little town waiting for weather to lay down !

Those who have been around Venice, FL, will remember the small island right next to the channel. Sandy beaches all around, people congregate on a nice day.

Interesting to watch the pontoon boats which are beached at high tide with no thought about the tide dropping while they are swimming. Some pick up on it and are able to recover - others - well they spend a longer time than they planned on.

A true beauty on Lake Norman NC.View attachment 71919
the one thing about those lake barges that always plagued my thoughts... ok they are clearly geared towards consumption of liquids... the bilges have to be pumped at some point. I know some of the nicer ones have the shower curtain porto potties , but the vast majority leave me scratching my head and being a little skeeved. the ladies especially must have an issue
