Thanks in advance. I have a 2006 Amberjack with dual 5.0l mercruisers. I need to replace one of the motors and am hoping to purchase a complete drop in replacement.
the only issue is that my mechanic is having trouble finding a 5.0. He can find a 5.0 rebuilt block and put my parts on it, but gave me a option of doing a new 5.7L complete drop in. is this something that is commonly done?

brand new gm marine 5.0 long blocks are still available......he cant be looking very hard. if you go with a 350 make sure he has a plan for the computer.....the 305 one will work, but the fuel trim and timing is different - at best the 350 does not reach its full output, worst case you destroy your new engine.....if hes quoting a true new drop in that will come with all accessories and computer - no problem....big $$$. As for a 350 on one side and a 305 on the other, sounds a bit hokey but will work......obviously the goal would be to repower the other side sooner than later
