1989 Sundancer twin 7.4,s 3 batteries. I have had conflicting info on proper battery switch positions on my boat. Previous owner left switch on BOTH position when on shore power and not starting engines for 3-5 days. Should I be leaving it on BOTH and when on the hook turn switch to either 1 or 2 to save one battery for engine start up when needed. Is there a quick way to decipher between which is the house batteries or the starting battery .There are 3 deep cycle batteries all hooked to the switch.

With twin engines you should have 2 battery switches, 1 should have a stand alone battery, the other should have 2 in parallel

Okay its making sense now. I will be at the boat tomorrow and I will figure out which battery starts the genny. I thank you for your help. So when on the hook switch to house batteries as to leave single battery charged for starting.
