Fox Marine Gateway

I'm working on a mod for the gateway that will make it even more useful. Allen and I are discussing the best way to do this.

A way to pull and reset codes? That’s one thing I think would be nice. I haven’t needed it, and hope not to, but that would basically make them a Rinda

He was probably out boating. It's a small operation.
I emailed merc with the serial numbers and they said I have the MEFI-3. That was what I was wondering. I purchased two of them so hopefully they ship soon.

I emailed the customer service for fox marine yesterday and still haven't heard back.

I’ve communicated with him before and he usually is responsive. But sometimes he’s slow to reply.

Assuming what ever is in the works, gets rolled out, How would we get our existing gateways to access the new functionality.

Does anyone know if there is a calibration or anything for the MEFI-1 model that I might be missing? I ask because I quite frankly don’t believe my nMPG numbers. It’s reporting that my twin TBI 5.7’s are only burning a combined 13.2 GPH at 3300 RPM. The boat is going 26mph which is calculating to 1.7 nMPG on my plotter. I also realize it’s just average injector pulse so maybe a little inaccurate, but still seems off

I would love it if that number is accurate, but it seems too good to be true. This is a 98 290 DA with full fuel and water, 2 people, 4 blade props on alphas.

I've found my fuel burns, and the fuel numbers when I fill up compared to what the data says to be incredibly accurate. Are you sure your 13.2 GPH burn is not per engine? Where does that number fall compared to the OEM data for your boat/engine combo at that rpm?

I’ve only had mine hooked up for about a week. So I’m still learning how to use all the functionality. I’m also trying to figure out why it’s not displaying oil pressure or oil temp.

Strecker 25- I agree that seems unusually low. However I notice that my Garmen MFD can display combine fuel burn and my Simrad will not show combine. Also each unit can be programmed to show different data for each motor. So possibly your only looking st fuel flow for one one of the motors. Dose is say “combine” or some sort of abbreviation for port ot starboard.

What's weird is that I would expect the total burn at 3,300 to be in the high teens, so 13.2 would be too low for combined, but high for a single?

Above are two shots of my plotter. The center number is combined fuel consumption and the one above it is fuel mileage. The lower left and right corners are fuel flow per motor. They are a little off from each other in the second picture because my timing was off on one motor. I’ve since fixed that and the burn is identical between both motors but still curiously low. Using the iPhone app the same exact number is being reported her engine directly from the gate way, as it’s being displayed on the plotter. Maybe I just have magic motors. I’m going to fill it this weekend and burn a bunch of gas then refill and see how close we are

I like the way the Raymarine will allow you to show the motors GPH separately and give you a combined number on the same screen. Unfortunately my Go12 will not display the data that way, it only shows each motor separately. However, my Garmin (older unit) will show the combination or separate, but not display both.

It sounds like you will get your answer this weekend by filling up and burning off the fuel. I think it would be ideal if you could take a long ride where you can run at cruse speed/RPM for an extended period. But either way your plan should help verify. Please keep us posted.

What Garmin do you have? My 740s will show both and that is how I have it displayed. I balance the engines as much by fuel flow as the synchronizer. I have the 8 data box display that has 4 larger boxes and a smaller box next to them in each corner. I set the each engine fuel flow to be displayed in the small bottom corner boxes while the total fuel flow is in one of the larger data boxes in the upper opposite mpg.

Yep, also going to reset the fuel tank level as the mfd will track total burn and fuel level so that should give me a really good indication of if it is accurate. I really like these devices though, having all that data is great. I especially like the spark advance readout so I can verify physical advance with the light against what the ecm thinks it’s doing

My Garmin is the 740s too. Could it be different b/c my motors are MEFI3?

No, it is just the settings and data bars chosen if you do have 2 fuel flow meters. How many data bars do you have and what do they display?

Do you have the Garmin fuel flow meters?

I don’t have Garmin fuel flow meters. I was under the impression that I didn’t need them, and the gateways would measure the f/flow.

My units max is 6 box’s of info. Below is the garmin and my simrad

On the navigation screen you can have up to eight boxes of data and still see the map on the display. There will be one box in each corner and one smaller box next to that box, giving you a total of eight data boxes. That was the screen I was referring to with eight boxes.

The newer Garmin units allow you to customize even more. I usually dedicate an entire 7" device to just fuel data. By the time I install gateways, I'll probably convince myself that I need 3 more displays on the dash. :D

I finally ran while and refilled, I’m way off. Gateways reported 37 gallons burned, fill up took 61

Each gateway reports Individually via Bluetooth the same the plotter is showing so I think my plotter is doing the math right. I’m thinking it’s time to call the guys at fox marine. Engines
Run great
