So I have been having my starboard engine alarm going off and a code is coming up that Port and Starboard engine exhaust manifold temp is high when I am reading the starboard engine codes. Put a heat gun on motors and everything was all good running at 3200rpms except port motor was reading 200 plus at the end of the exhaust close to the muffler, Risers and manifolds only 2 years old and their temps are fine, water flow is good in both motors. Anyone have any idea why temps would be good on risers and getting hot further down the line? And why starboard alarm is going off not the port sending starboard engine in guardian mode when port exhaust is hot? This has been a tough one to diagnose....Thanks

Any idea what the raw water pressure is? Last year i had one engine running hot and it turned out to be a bad belt.

Engines are 2002 8.1s I was told the boat was on a lake the first 10 years then on CT River brackish water. The boat is in salt water now. Water temps and pressure all tested good. The head scratcher is why the risers are correct temp then exhaust gets hotter down the line. Also the starboard alarm is putting boat in guardian mode and its the port engine with overheat
Thanks for taking time to respond!

Have you pulled the exhaust tubes to inspect them to ensure they are not delaminating on the inside?

Not sure why the over heat condition on the port shows in the starboard alarms but if you are experiencing excessive exhaust temps may be due to a lean burn condition causing higher combustion temps and therefore higher exhaust temps that become evident further down the line as gases and raw water separate.

Also, try swapping sensors port to starboard to see if the condition follows. If it does then you have a bad sensor and if it doesn’t you know where your problem is.

That is what is was, Exhaust manifold heat sensor was bad, Being told the exhaust temp is fine but will keep an eye on it.....Thanks Again!
