So now that I have my TV's powered up on my boat I was going to attempt to get my KVH M1 system up and running. I have a receiver in the boat the powers on, and I'm sure that one of the sources on my TV's will display the satellite TV however after scrolling through I do not see any signal being picked up. Do I need a subscription for this to work? Also I am hearing that within a month my M1 system will be useless? Anyone hear anything about that? Ill be contacting KVH support today to confirm . Anyhoo, thanks in advance for any information you may have. Cheers!

Edit, just got off the phone with KVH and I was told that direct TV will no longer activate my receiver, and thus Im SOL.. There has got to be some way around this.. Seems like a huge waste of equipment.

KVH has the TV1 as a replacement with all the latest technology changes. The M1 is older equipment, and I know many are still using devices in the "M" family. ....I have the M3

It is difficult to find support on a new setup as many will say it is discontinued equipment. I set mine up 5 years back and needed to apply a satellite angle change (programming instructions provided by KVH).

I went with Dish Network for programming and have had a few battles with them that my equipment should not be working LOL

Good luck, I'm sure others will come along with good Direct TV tips.

I am in the same situation. With DirectV If you sign a new contract at your house, they will come install it. Then take one receiver and leave it on your boat....

Contact a local electronics/stereo installer that sells KVH domes and have them help you. The key is to get your directv receiver activated asap as they are not activating SD receivers soon if not already. As said above it will still work but won't be able to access HD channels.

I have directv service for my house and added hd receivers and just brought them to the boat, while at the dock hd works great connected to a terrestrial sat dish, on the water the M series KVH dome will pick up the sd stations. Receiver is $7.99/month and you have to have an active account with channel package.

OMG thank you for the info.. Since you are are on Lanier, would you recommend AVC? I dont know of any other Marine AV installers.

Yes, absolutely. Chris and his guys are really good. Where did you buy your boat?

Awesome. Hope to see you on the lake. Say hello if you are around R dock at Holiday or our boat is named Lor-E-Lei after the bar in Islamorada.

I have the M3 on my 58. I upgraded from the H21 (for free) to the H24 receiver. DTV sent it to me for without cost. I added it to my home account. Everything is working perfectly.

And you will probably need to play with the various antenna/LNB configurations in the receiver's setup. I have the HR24 (has DVR) and don't think my antenna selection was the same however I have a Tracvision 4. I think I got my receiver from Solid Signal and it's an additional $7/month for the programming (just follow their directions to register).
