I believe I have a Simrad MGL 3 GPS/DGPS Antenna. Will this connect to my Garmin 740s? The Garmin antenna is not powered and uses a simple BNC connection. Not sure what the Simrad uses or if compatible?

This may not be the most helpful but.....my existing Furuno GPS antenna did not work with my Garmin 742's. After having them for a few trips now I'm not sure I'll ever revisit the external antenna topic though. The internal antennas (which I believe the 740s also has?) are pretty outstanding...

Thanks, the internal antenna was outstanding, now it has failed and want to keep the 740 until it is time for the new suite.

If the external antenna does not work my guess is I will get the 742.

MM. we were talking about this on the dock this weekend as a neighbor thought his gps or antenna had crapped out on his raymarine equipment. It was connected with a simple bnc connector. He was saying the repair guy replaced an internal battery (Cr2025) in the antenna. Don't know if that helps but if your old external antenna isn't working could be worth a shot. I had never heard that there was an internal battery before... Also, you can find garmin 17 external gps antennas on ebay for $40-$60. Good luck.

I will check for a battery. I would be simultaneously happy and pissed if that was it because Garmin did not mention it after holding an hour to troubleshoot with them. LOL
