Bridge AC our ac on the bridge seems to have trouble keeping up as the outside temp rises. Even with the fan at full speed it does not seem to blow with any force. Any ideas ?
So that issue is most luxurious Kelly because it is a small unit inside your helm as an aftermarket installed by the dealer. You most likely have a bunch on vents and all the air is diffused. Mine keeps me just cool to function with a following wind. Otherwise I open the isinglass.

I have a couple questions for you guys - any one have experience with the fuel switches?- The gen feeds off port tank, if you switch the port main to the starboard tank does it affect the gen feed as well?
And has anyone ever changed out one of the drains in the shower/Head? - just the strainer. If so source? Any trick to unscrewing?

Russ, sorry no help. I haven't done anything with the fuel switches or the drain in the shower.

Russ, the fuel pickup for the generator is separate from the engine pickup on the port side. It is designed so if you start to run low on fuel your genny will cut out as the pickup is higher than the engine pickup. So it should not be a problem.

Shower drain.... good luck I have seen a lot of people ask and never an answer.

I am biting the bullet tomorrow. Having a certified Cat mechanic do a diagnostics test on my Cats. They are running great but I am getting black smoke out the exhausts when powering up from cruise speed to plane. Any guesses on what the diagnostics is going to cost me? They are charging almost $200 round trip from the shop to the marina. I am just wanting to make sure everything is in order.

What lube should I use to ease the pain? :)

I know the smoke is driving you crazy. How much on acceleration do you get? When I go from 1000rpm and run it up to cruise, I get a little black smoke as the exhaust build up is blown out, but it only lasts 2-3 seconds and then runs clean.

Mine runs clean also after getting up on plane, which leads me to believe the turbos are not spooling up fast enough. I get considerable smoke out of both exhausts for 10-12 seconds prior to that, which is what I am trying to figure out. Right now, I am leaning on doing the new turbos myself and see what happens. I have also been posting on BoatDiesel and most agree that the turbos are the problem. One poster described what his boat was doing prior to a turbo change and it is exactly what my boat is doing. Sluggish acceleration and lots of smoke until up on plane. The turbos fixed his problem.

Can anyone help me with how to take the floor out of the saloon so I can access the starboard motor on 48 sedan bridge

Hey mate any idea how I go about doing this where to start etc

Thanks Steve
Hi Steve, 1) roll up and remove carpet and backing.
2) you will see L-brackets at base of bar. Unscrew and save in a cup or baggie. 3) inside of bar doors you will see Phillip head screws (6 I believe) that hold the bar against the cabinet. Unscrew those aswell.4) pull out the bar.
5) remove bolts in engine room holding both floors together.6) unscrew floor where it is screwed into interior decking. 7) cut sealant away. 8) get people to help lift floor as they are heavy.

Hope this helped.

When you take that bar out, I think some of the screws are longer than others, so number them. Seems like I remember some would go into the freezer if too long.

I have a different question, very front PORT corner of front side of engine compartment has a drain hole, that then drains into the front engine compartment bilge. What is that draining? Slight drip sometimes, what do you check and how do you access? Thanks!

Hey guys, I am hoping to once again pull on the great knowledge base of this club. This past weekend, while on a quick 4 day trip, I noticed that when I am hooked to the shore water line, I am filling my fresh water tank too. I noticed a slight drip from the overflow area and checked the tank level. I had 3/4 and once hooked to the land water feed, the level increased to full. I am not sure if this has happened to anyone before, just looking for any feedback from someone that might save me a lot of time just investigating.
Thanks in advance.

The guys here can help out a lot more if you would complete your profile info. (on the left) as boat year, model and location can effect responses.

Thought it was on there, but maybe not. It’s a 2004 480DB. I thought this was for 480DB people, or those acquiring one. I guess the front port side drain in the front of the engine compartment could have changed, but not much drains over there. So if if you actually have one of these, does knowing the year model help you answer my question? If so, what all can drain there? Thanks!

Sounds like water in getting past the fresh water pumps in the wrong direction ion. Very strange.

I have a 2001 480DB and I am not sure what drain you are talking about. I will check this weekend when I get to the boat. Can you take a picture of what you are seeing and maybe we can figure it out. My first thought is it might be a condensation drain from the center air conditioner.
