How much exhaust smoke would you say is normal out of a ‘07 340? Engine temps are normal and no other abnormal indications.

I have a video but its hard to upload.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't expect to see any smoke at all from a gas engine. Maybe a little steam when first started on a cold morning...

Usual culprits would be too rich of a mixture, oil blow-by from worn rings or bad gas.

If your gas is really old, that could be a common denominator. Otherwise you might consider doing a compression test.

Also, do you have raw water cooling and above water exhaust. If so, you may just be seeing steam. I have raw water cooling but my exhaust outlets are under-water so I may not have the needed perspective.

Either way, if it is really smoke, you should be able to smell it if you circle round and pass back through your wake.

This was discussed last week regarding steam. Some people have always seen it in their exhaust, others say they rarely see it.

Is this something new you’re noticing ?typical big blocks with the water lift mufflers and long exhaust run steam like that I know mine do ,and a lot of others on here as well .unless this is something unusual for your boat I would consider it normal

We’ve had the boat for 3 months so we are still learning “normal”. As we get more familiar we start to notice these little details.
Could you link the thread so I can take a look?
