to these part# 8M0075245 4500 series gen II controls? Wondering if there smother and if it will cover the old mounting hole with out using an ugly plate. And if your liking the trim switches. And feel and quality.

Hi Chris, did you do the upgrade? I placed an order for the following and waiting for the parts to come in. Just wondering if you have any feedback on the controls and did you do the install your self? Any tips?

1 x 8M0075246
Shift Cables:
8M0085979,
8M0085980,
8M0085982,
8M0085983

Not sure if I need this harness or not though; 865772T02

Thanks!

I have the 2nd design on my '05 and they are great - Ive had the 1st style on an alpha boat and didnt like them (in all fairness alphas dont shift as smooth so not a good comparison)

Thanks for the reply, yes I love my 2002 sundancer but I hate those old controls. Its like a workout just to maneuver the boat around.

Im hoping to do the replacement myself, just wondering if anyone has taken on this task and anything I should be aware of.

Cheers!

I never did pull the trigger yet but it still is on my list. im curious if it fits in the existing cut out or at least just have to make it bigger so it cover the old hole

Hi Chris, new member here and just bought a 1998 290DA with these older controls... they are crazy stiff and imprecise... have been boating for 30 years and these suckers are just hard to maneuver with! How was your process on replacing cables for your boat and did it seem to fix the terrible stiffness? I am considering trying to force lubricant into the cables and opening the controller up to look for any friction adjustments etc. Did you try anything else prior to replacing your cables? Thank you!

The controls themselves are generally just a cosmetic improvement. The cables are what causes the stiffness/imprecision. If you're not happy with the effort/precision of your shifters. I'd recommend you start with lower shift cables and go from there. You can disconnect your upper shift cable from the shift plate and move the shifter to confirm if it's the lower shift cable that's causing the stiffness.
